The Gaur (Bos gaurus) also called Indian Bison, is the largest extant bovine, native to South Asia & SE Asia. They have huge head, deep massive body, and sturdy limbs, the gaur is the embodiment of vigour and strength.
They are social animals, and live in small groups. Sometimes medium size groups comprise of up to 30 to 40 individuals. It was interesting to observe the Matriarch leading a herd of 12-14 adults and a couple of calves in the beautiful grasslands of Mukki.
Bos gaurus is a Schedule – I animal, according to wildlife (Protection) act, 1972 and classified as Vulnerable (VU) by the IUCN.

The gaur are, I'm not sure about the cape measurements. You'd have to ask @GuateGojira but I'll see what I can find.

Wild gaur killed in palm plantation

A 6-year-old wild gaur weighing more than 800 kilogrammes that strayed from its herd was tragically shot and killed after it wandered into a palm plantation in Krabi province earlier yesterday.
Forestry officials and police are in the process of locating the hunter that shot the animal so that charges brought against him.
The animal was shot in a palm plantation in Ban Nhong Mad village in Plai Phraya district.
Authorities from the Bang Phan Forest Ranger Unit went to inspect after being alerted.
They managed to retrieve the carcass of the 6-year-old wild gaur and transported it to their headquarters for examination.
The animal was hit by nine shots believed to be from shotgun.
The fatal blow was to the right hand side of its neck.
They speculated that the animal had probably strayed from its herd in the Khao Sok National Park in Surat Thani province and had wandered into the palm and rubber plantations located along the borders of Krabi and Phang Nga provinces.
It was reported to have been sighted in the plantations for more than two weeks and villagers report that it was a docile animal allowing many of them to approach it.
Chief of the Klong Phraya Wildlife Conservation Office, Meechai Aisoon, stated that he had filed official charges for the killing of the protected animal with the Plai Phraya police station.
He said authorities now knew the identity of the suspect and efforts are underway to locate the man.
The killer will face charges of illegal hunting and killing of protected animals which is a direct violation of the B.E.1992 Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act.

Suresh Babu Patli galli, i have seen it sevaral time this happening. And many times i have also seen tiger killing the gaur. Once a tiger killed a male gaur and eaten it and hidden it in safe place from scavengers and valtures. On 4 th day in the evening tiger reached and ate the kill and moved to a dryed nalla and sat on the left side of the bank which is 4 feet above the nalla. Seeing the tiger one big male gaur walked up to the tiger through the nalla and kept on challenging Tiger. Tiger also took the attacking positions, inspite the gaur climbed the nalla went face to face and before gaur attacking tiger ran away and disappeared. I shot a video clip.
