LION PREDATION ON BUFFALOES! - BIGCATSXPERT - 09-30-2021
I made this thread for the subject lion vs bull buffalo..
Can a male lion kill a bull buffalo or not?
Also lions predation on buffaloes..(we got a lot of clips and accounts)
So pls share all the proofs and accounts and predation of lions on buffaloes here..

In Tanzania's Lake Manyara National Park, George Schaller (1972) reported that an amazing 62% of all lion prey was made up of Cape buffalo, with 81% of this 62% being adult male buffalo. Buffalo-killing is also important to the lions of Kruger National Park. Male lions at Kruger are frequent and successful hunters and are better able to kill buffalo than are females (Funston et al. 1998)."

Mohawk Avoca. 28th September.
Mohawk Avoca on his second attempt manage to bring down a buffalo calf. It panicked the herd when he burst out the vegetation and tackled it, the herd stampeded away. He used his strength to suffocate it to death. During the suffocation, the calf was able to let a bellow out which resulted in the entire herd double backing on themselves and actually mob this lion off the calf. Buffalos are infamous for this mobbing behaviour and in this situation it proved successful! The calf was groomed by a number of females in the herd and it disappeared into the masses of adults. Remember male lions do hunt for themselves.

A very powerful lion. He took down that buffalo in seconds.
He's known to be one of the biggest lions in Kenya.

Earless was a true beast of male lion. Unfortunately, I haven't heard much about him lately. A shame

A Pride of lion surrounds the male cape buffalo. Even tough the pride was a large one with several males in it, the buffalo was proving to be difficult to bring down. Watch the entire video to witness the outcome of this battle.

Well, as far as the poll options go I’m not sure that I would always say “easily”, as Cape buffalo are formidable and incredibly dangerous animals in their own right - this makes lion predation on them all the more impressive! But yes, male lions can and have been documented killing large bull buffaloes.
