RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - GuateGojira - 08-26-2014

This is what happen when a record is only confirmed by email and not by other means, like documents or videos, for example.

Some one say 280 kg, other say 281 kg, other person say 253 kg, but other state 250 kg, at the and, WHAT is the true????

I think, and I support my idea, that the round numbers are probably the correct ones, 280 and 250 kg, period.

Could this lion weigh over 260 kg? Possible, but the picture itself show that it was heavily gorged and as I have stated, male lions eat over 33 kg, when they want to do it, like this case.

I accept the record (for the moment), but I would prefer a document, just to back up it.

I'm with you Gaute, its very hard to believe a weight when so many different reports exist, as well as the words from the actual biologist that state different than others.
I would also love to see the lion actually being weighed, since they obviously had cameras on hand and pictures taken of the exact capture, they surely would have pictures of the cat being weighed as well.

The lion that was collared on the 24th October 2011 was not the 280kg male we're discussing here. This lion had a darker mane and clearly looked big. He's the one in front

Here is the question being specifically asked

Richard was not there for the alleged weighing

(note that I did'nt write the extra info, please don't take offense because it is not geared at you nor was it written by me)
Richard is a blogger apparently and has nothing to do with the weighing, christine is the true person to talk to since she was there for it.

That email was to Tigris. OK.............. Could the issue of fabrication or editing possibly
be a factor? Its common knowledge Paul's not exactly, ahhhh.....on the level shall I say.

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - GuateGojira - 08-28-2014

I am a bit confused now, as I have not participated in the first debate in AVA (as far I remember), so I don't remember all those other conversations.

So, was this lion actually weighed, or not???

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Richardrli - 08-28-2014

Yes it was in fact weighed. I hate to bring up AVA here but this was the thread discussing this issue (which you must read if you want to get to the bottom of this): http://animalsversesanimals.yuku.com/topic/3684/BUSTED-280kg-lion-just-estimate-timbavati-leopard-pro?page=1

Bold champ's email that confirmed the matter was posted in the last page of this thread, this coming from the head of the nature reserve. He specifically (and in very firm language) clarified that this lion was weighed and that Christina Hansen had left the Leopard Project as they no longer had any records of her. This 280kg lion was a nomad along with another male that invaded Timbavati reserve around early 2012 (I think this is most likely what happened but I'm not entirely 100% sure), it was noted particularly for its large size and aggression, killing cubs of the resident pride. To me, that explains the Christina Hansen photos of October 2011 was of the resident lions and NOT the two nomads. One of us here could ask Almero Bosch again to clear this matter up once and for all, but for all practical purposes he had already answered our burning question of whether this lion was actually weighed, and that answer is YES.

There are those who vehemently dispute the claim, despite emails from a rep at the  timbavati
reserve who was present along with a certified veterinarian. Draw your own conclusions.

Sorry chaos, but your words are useless for me, no offense, just that they don't help me at all.

I prefer the explanation of Richardrli, far more complete.

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Pckts - 08-28-2014

No the lion was not weighed. The only person who was actually there, photographed with the lion and is from the Timbavati reserve specifically states it was not weighed, only estimated.
Christina Hansan is the only one who was there for it. This lion is only a estimate and that is backed by the information and pictures above.

Take the email away, you still have Christina specifically saying it was not weighed.

I also am curious why you don't say the same in regards to Bolds email??

I cant expound any further on "draw your own conclusions". Truthfully there' s nothing more to offer that hasn't
been offered already. Sorry
