If comparing his shoulder height to the grass and using the jeep as scale, I would say his shoulder height would be a few inches below the front of the jeep. Around the same level as the headlight.

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Pantherinae - 12-20-2014

Well I have seen him just infront of car's and he Looks actually just as tall as The front of The jeep! Those jeep's are massive, this lion is just incerdibly massive IMO! From my own own point of view Taller than any cat I've ever seen in The wild!.. Not to start any contest, this is just my opinion. But this male lion is just as big as Lions will get! :-)

btw a joy talking to you again @Pckts

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Pckts - 12-21-2014

Well, using the jeep as acual scale. It doesn't look taller than the headlights. I definitely would never say one cat from one picture is the "tallest" or "largest" etc. Pointless to try and claim that with just one image from one angle. I can show tons of lions and tigers who would appear every bit as tall if the angles are right.
Just Sayen

Hehe I'm sorry @Pckts I did not mean just by this picture I've seen videos of him, look closely and you can see in this picture he's actually behind the jeep. never the less it's for sure other tall individuals, star male from Ranthambore looks very tall

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Pckts - 12-22-2014

I used the tips of the blades of grass compared to the tip of his shoulder and height of the head lamps. I would love to see some videos of him if you have any?
Ya, star male looks like a giant but many tigers and lions look tall. Its just ridicolous to try and say one or another is the tallest just because the differences even at the maximum is only an inch or two usually for either species.

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Pantherinae - 12-23-2014

I'll try to find some videos of him later! Yah Vijay said that star male was without any doubt The biggest tiger in Ranthambore!

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Pckts - 12-23-2014

T28 is considered the largest framed tiger in Ranth.
But T72, T42, T24 and others could be heavier. Kanwar and a few others stated T28 is the largest framed, but who knows if he is the tallest in ranth. And who ranth probably doesn't have any taller tigers than other places with large tigers, so he could just be one of many.
World records and averages of either species are very close, body length is generally the biggest difference between lions and tigers.

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - JawaRumbia - 11-07-2015

Hey guys, can anyone confirm this?

https://books.google.com.my/books?id=SD1cAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA27&dq=the+largest+neck+girth+of+a+lion&hl=en&sa=X&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=the%20largest%20neck%20girth%20of%20a%20lion&f=false

The lion had a neck girth of 4 feet 1 inch, is this reliable?

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - GuateGojira - 11-07-2015

No, that is a girth over the mane and the other girth is definitely not from the chest, but probably from a full belly.

Check also that the book is from 1848, so, you can guess about its accuracy.

Thanks, Guate

I really appreciate it..

The lion had the 3 ft neck girth. The 4 ft 1 in. Girth comes from a nylgi or something like that

The 4 ft neck girth was from another creature. The lion had a 3ft 1 in. Neck girth or so.

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Sully - 11-08-2015

I would say duba lions and the crater lions

RE: Largest Living wild lions ? - Pantherinae - 11-08-2015

@SVTIGRIS by the info and researtch I've done I assume you're correct. Big lions can occur in almost every populations. but The most massive ones I would bet comes from Okavango, then Crater lions.
