ID wise, he's an Interesting looking male, the ''circles'' pattern sorrounding his eyes starting on his ''eyebrows'' and leading down above his nostril area ( looking at his face straight front ) resembles alot Adriano's face on the same area.

NORTHERN PANTANAL: I had wrongly posted this jaguar under the ID of Edno in a different thread but turns out that this is Uka. I confused her with Edno due to their similar forehead pattern and the apparent large size this female also has. We know pictures can be deceiving but nonetheless this one does show a huge female with a thick chest.

SOUTHERN PANTANAL: Remembering the huge male Xavier, profile:

"Xavier, usually accompanied by a female, was sighted inside the area monitored by the team. He has never been seen in conflict with another male, but over the years has moved his territory to the northern area. This relocation is possibly in order to avoid conflict with the males that live within Onçafari’s area of study."

His features remind a lot to Joker's and makes me wonder if he's responsible for having had sired Joker. Xavier was also thought to have dethroned Ghost from his territory. Unfortunately this huge male was never collared, and is most likely dead by now:

"Happy International Jaguar Day from the Jaguar Identification Project!

We want to share with you some of the statistics we have collected comparing last year 2019 to 2020. ?

This year the Pantanal experienced the largest wildfires in the last 60 years. Seeing the fires move across the region burning everything in its path, was terrifying to think what could be happening to not just the jaguars but all the wildlife in the Pantanal.

But what we saw when we got there is; hope, strength and resilience. With the help of biologist, volunteers, guides and boat drivers we have been able to confirm 66 individuals since the time the fires calmed in September. In 2019, before the fires, our end of the year jaguar report concluded with 73 individuals. Though these numbers are not identical, they are very very close.

It’s important to note that the Jaguar ID project mainly uses citizen science to collect information on known individuals and this year with the travel bans due to COVID-19 and the fires the region didn't receive 1/8th of the number of tourist in they would during a normal year. Meaning the number of eyes in the river was much lower.

We also want to share with you that, as of now, there is no confirmed evidence of a single jaguar dying from the fires. There were lots of rumors and media grabbing ahold of the story of the few jaguars rescued in the region. One of which, Ousado has been released back in his home and the other, Amanaci, is still in recovery. Many jaguars we saw after the fires showed evidence of possible injuries from the fires, but jaguars along with the entire cat family have incredible abilities to heal on their own.

PLEASE don't take us wrong, what happened in the Pantanal is NOT okay, and we do not know the long term effects. But what we do know jaguars in this region are okay. And we cant wait to have you all back next year!"

The JID just shared the lineage and legacy of my all-time favorite female jaguar Ruth, a matriarch in Porto Jofre who's legacy also included the iconic females Capi/Hunter, Ãgue, and the brothers Xando and Bororo. She is a stunning specimen and her DNA produced some very large and beautiful lineage:

"Kyra (Ruth) is one of the most important females in the Proto Jofre region. Her habituated behavior in the presence of tourist has passed on through her linage. Opening a window for us to learned more about the daily lives of jaguars in the wild.

LLANOS:

I thought that the male from this recent post was Aniceto, but due to the distance of the pictures I couldn't corroborate. Now the people who took these pictures told me that they were the ones who actually named him and can confirm that is him! They named him this year during March, and although not much is known about him, I believe he may be around 3 years of age, close to reaching his prime. Yet another magnificent individual from la Aurora.

NORTHERN PANTANAL: Profiles of two new males in the Porto Jofre región, Jofe and Ubiratã.

Jofe is a modest sized male, below average in weight (likely the result of body discomposure from not being able to hunt while injured during the fire season), and Ubiratã is a new huge male who, according to the JID, rivals in size the largest jaguar ever seen in the Region, Edno:

I was also told that Uka is actually a female! She is so massive that I confused her with Edno once, mother of Xingu male.
