this picture of KF vs Umarpani will forever be iconic now, both now gone. one died in territorial fight and the other died of old age. if it wasn’t for these guys. Mukki wouldn’t be what it is in the present day. truly, the golden days of Mukki.

Which one is Kingfisher? right one or left?

RE: B2 and Other Great Tiger Pics from India - DaveB - 06-05-2023

His body had a lot of injury marks indicating his struggle with other tigers, he went out fighting.
Are there any successors of Umarpani still around? DJ5 male was his son I guess, but even he is not heard of these days?

DJ5 was spotted in the Khatia Zone this past January.

I don’t think Uma ever recovered from his injuries sustained in may from a fight. He was just too old to recover, but he went out on his shield for sure.

Not a long time ago (the last year ?), some photos were posted showing a very impressive male close to a tigress. I was really surprised by the muscles density and - being a non-specialist here about tigers - asked which tiger it was. It was Umarpani. Really wild, huge and beautiful...
Always sad to learn such an end. But from the beautiful tiger it was, I can guess its descendants will be gorgeous too. RIP

Carcass of a tigress found yesterday in chandrapur forest. Looking at the stripe patterns it does look like it is Sharmili.

same male that was seen in Mamla, he has been known to travel to Agarzari also. probably just looking to settle down and most likely in his transient stage.

dead female is indeed Sharmili, sad we lost her too. she was the daughter of famous Coal mine/Kitadi male and Bandi female. born in a litter of 3 in year 2008 or 2009. Pasha (her brother) Sharmili and another sibling. she was also the mother of Chota Khali, SK, C1 & karwa buffer female. one of her previous litter daughter with Khali also ruled the Chandrapur Super Thermal power station area and was referred to as Urja female. her sister from the same litter travelled all the way to Satpura MP.

RIP to one of the most dominant queen of Tadoba’s buffer areas.

The last of the Matkasur lineage

As disheartened as we were on the sudden disappearance of Matkasur, after fighting as hard as he could for his own survival as well as his ancestry, but all in vein, we found a little ray of happiness in cracking this tiger's lineage.
This young male hasn't had an easy start. He was born to Sharmili in Kolara back in 2021, that litter was probably the only one of Sharmili's litters that were sighted as young ones since she herself was so shy.
Just in a few days, the litter became popular and naturally, well known.
Matkasur too, was sighted during that time and it was an awarding sighting for all.
This was until Tala invaded the territory, gravely injuring Matkasur and leaving Sharmili on her own, on the run with 2 little cubs.
For the following days she was sighted in the outskirts of the park, in farms and meadows that were beyond the reach of the safety of the park. While this caused the villagers a worrisome few days, they let her be undisturbed.
That was the last we heard of this litter.
Time went by and Sharmili wasn't seen with any cubs till now, we could only presume that the 2 cubs fathered by Matkasur were long gone.
Months late, a young, small but healthy tiger sub-adult would often cross the Kolara road and was hardly ever sighted, rare enough for us to almost not remember it.
Recently in 2023, during the summer, an adolescent, well built tiger was sighted in the heart of Ramdegi zone, in Chota Matka's territory where his litter with Amba female would often rest peacefully.

People assumed it was one of Bhanuskendi's sub-adults but Jignesh knew in just one look that it wasn't so. After a few tedious days of thinking it suddenly struck him during a safari in Kolara buffer that this new tiger looked very similar to Junabai and Sharmili. He ran through the database and his doubt was instantly cleared. This male was one of the two cubs of Sharmili's last litter (2021).

Despite his father being thrown out of their home, his mother being forced to leave the forest and flee her own territory like refugees, and he himself having to seperate from his mother way before he was supposed to, this cub managed to survive by himself.

Nature is truly a wonder and it never, never ceases to amaze us.

Problematic tigress captured in Kanchanpur, Nepal & transported to Shuklaphanta, Nepal. April/2023

*This image is copyright of its original author

The man-eating tiger captured from Belauri Municipality-8 Pachui in Kanchanpur has been taken to Shuklaphanta National Park.
After Gangadevi Chand of the same place was mauled to death by a tiger on Friday, the technical team from Shuklaphanta and Bardia National Parks took control of the tiger today morning. Roshansingh Thagunna, chief conservation officer of the park, informed that the captured tiger was kept in a cage at Shuklaphanta National Park.
According to Thagunna, a letter has been sent to the department to decide whether to release the tiger in Shuklaphanta National Park or any other place.
It is said that the man-eating tiger is a female of about six years old. Yesterday, Chand, who had gone to cut grass in Khaptinala area, was grabbed and taken to the bush. Other women who went to cut grass with Chand escaped and saved their lives.
After the tiger mauled the woman in the morning and disappeared, a technical team was deployed from last night to control the tiger. "Even though an attempt was made to take control yesterday, it was not possible due to dark," said Thagunna.
Kanchanpur police said that the body of Chand, who had been snatched away by a tiger, was found Saturday morning. There was a fear of tigers in the southern region of Kanchanpur since March. On March 24, a tiger killed Kalsa Sarki of Punarwas Municipality-10, Madan Tole in the Dudhuwa National Park area of India.
Earlier, a woman from Krishnanagar, a border Indian village near Belauri Municipality-1 in Kanchanpur, was also killed by a tiger.
