Maybe my best moment in Kabini when we got to see this beautiful backwater tigress with cubs. She was sitting around a hundred meters away with her cubs on a hot sunny afternoon when we reached the spot. Famous for being extremely shy, she immediately vanished into the forest!! But the cubs seem to have taken after their father who is probably the boldest tiger to have ever graced Kabini. They gave us a good half an hour of my best time in kabini. Wish I had snapped her before she got behind the bamboo. But as I said, she did not give us even a seconds chance before she vanished.

This is Prince, the pride of Bandipur. Very bold Tiger who does not care for anyone. If you find him, your photography is done. Such a handsome Tiger....

Apart from having a tele lens, having a zoom lens for wildlife is a must. You can zoom in and out to compose the image. In this case I was using a 70-200 lens with a 2X converter. This was photographed at 185mm. I included some of the Jeeps in the background as I could not avoid it. That's ok, you can use these kind of images for articles on Tourism in your blog or for publication. When you compose an image, you also need to think where you want to use that. Good photography involves a lot of thinking behind making images.

Canon 1DX + Canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS II + 2X III Converter, ISO 1000, f5.6 @ 1/500, Evaluative Metering -1 Stop.

Vijaya, or Kankati, of course, died just a few days ago, possibly while defending her cubs from another tiger. And the cubs now have little chance of survival as they are just six months old. But such incidents are part and parcel of tiger life. They can survive such trials. But pressure is being put to place these cubs in captivity to 'rewild' them. Kailash Sankhala, the first Director of Project Tiger would disapprove. Protect their forests and leave wild species to fend for themselves was the Project Tiger policy when it was launched in 1973. Ashish Jawharkar "I understand and appreciate the need to address the conservation based issues, but the larger ones definitely need to be addressed by the ones in power. Pressure and check points can always be maintained, but its ultimately the ones in power making the calls. On a personal note I try and do my part whenever and wherever I can. Im sure we all do that !

With regards to the scenario at BTR, my reading of the plot is as under-

Kankati was heard to have mated with Jobhi/Baghoda Male and given birth to this litter of 3.

This June, just before the parks closed, one of Bameras son born from Banbehi female was seen roaming around Kankatis territory. In May and June this year she was "more often" seen shifting dens (this being a normal practice as well) clearly indicating her worries.

An urge to mate for the male (hence targeting the cubs) and a mother's instinct to save her offsprings might have resulted in this catastrophe"

2 of her cubs have died and the third was rescued by a Gaurd. Looks like one cub is going to get a lucky break. Sad news over all.

These images of Jai are all from 2013, he is still a sub adult. He's going to be a legendary tiger, thats for sure. Can't wait to see some newer images of that big boy this year.

On a side note, Amit Suchak is a very nice person who was completely open about sharing information with. I have nothing but praise for him.

He thereafter became Namdev and is the main territorial tiger of Mutkasur and Zhari areas at Tadoba range. It was a dream come true to see hims giving a full 45 minute sighting at Jamni Chowk. I just admire his personality!"

He looks like a very old tiger, I think. It is very skinny and remember me the old male tiger T-01 Muduka, captured by Dr Karanth in Nagarahole. That male weighed 209 kg empty belly, I think this male is about the same body mass - but I could be wrong, so don't eat me, ok?

Even then, in his form, I see where Disney get the inspiration for its Shere Khan.

He is definitely older and skinny though, but his frame is very large from what I can see.
