Biggest Kaziranga tiger? - Pantherinae - 07-01-2014

I was wondering who is the biggest tiger in Kaziranga National Park?
In my mind there is no Shadow of a doubt that KZT-083 is the biggest!
And he is maybe the biggest cat in the wild! My weight estimate of him is: 280 kg!

Between 280 to 300kg, with a 17 inches skull and 7 inches canine.

He may not be the biggest, but I believe this is the only pic of him and this picture started my fascination with the massive size of Kaziranga Tigers

those are some huge cat's, those head's are massive probably some tigers there with skulls on 16 maybe 17 inches!
I have a lion skull at home at 16 inches! And that's a big skull!

Lions skulls are normally slightly longer but 16''s is usually the max. Tigers have the more robust skull but these cats have notoriously robust and long skulls and 16'' is not unheard of for a tiger so possibly 17''s on the biggest boys. Their heads are just so robust, imagine the bite force they deliver.

I can mesure the skull myself, I just been told it was 16, i do also have a 36 cm tiger skull, a male leopard, jaguar and cougar skull! And one 36 cm lion skull aswell, but that's at my cabin..

And lion and tiger skull's are just in another leauge, than other cats!

There is also another doc with a guy on a elephant and his elephant gets attacked while tracking a tiger and he specifically says he is amazed by the size of the head on the tiger.
I can't find the doc but its a popular one and I am sure somebody here has it.

Peter has measured many skulls and has posted lots of data. If you look at the cat anatomy thread, he gives a great tutorial on how to measure and what each bone is.

Check out these two.
The one standing is a big male and the one sitting must be a male as well, judging from the head size.
I would assume that these two are sub adult bros just now looking for their own territory.
I wonder if the high tiger densisty could force these younger males to form coalitions like lions, that would be something to see.

The largest African lion skull is also about 17 inches, since lion has proportionally longer skull than tiger.

BTW, Madla's skull should be about 16 inches, it is the same as the largest wild Amur skull, the canine is also the same.

Wagdoh's skull should also be around 16 inches, but it looks bulkier compared to Madla's.

Some large captive male Amurs do have 17 inches skull though.

Yeah that bite force would be extreame! I would love to see another mesure of bite force, I think tigers can bite harder than what we think and have mesured before, lions alot more than the mesured one who count's. I'm sure they both do posess about the same bite force with as eachother, with a little advantage to the tiger, but from looking at their skulls I can't see why It should be a big difference!
Those cat's are just so cool!

Regardless, both bite hard enough to kill any animal they can sink their teeth in to.
All that matters in the wild.
