I'm not sure, the Gaur I saw in Kanha were definitely larger than the ones I saw in Tadoba, but that probably has more to do with Kanha being a Sal Forest compared to Tadoba being a Teak forest, the higher temps and drier climate contribute to that as well I'm sure. In regards to Kaziranga, I'd imagine that all herbivores would be larger there than compared to else where since they have more lush greenery and year round water supplies but as @Rishi said, I'm sure it's not as well suited for Gaur which is proven by the lack of their numbers there. Here are the only 2 images of Kaziranga Gaur that I've seen. Dude, don't just jump to random conclusions like that! Their size don't vary from forest patch to patch, especially interconnected ones. They might tend to favour a more muscular build far south of the peninsula, but not within a region... These specimens are Tadoba gaurs too. www.shutterstock.com/indian-gaur-bison-grass-land-tadoba-1031450179?src=_Mc-LhLEEA_4rYAV76lORg-1-73 *This image is copyright of its original author Tadoba-Andhari tiger reserve in seven days *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author Tadoba: more than a tiger reserve *This image is copyright of its original author jharanajunglelodge.com>gallery *This image is copyright of its original author http://wildnest.in/tadoba-trip-report/ *This image is copyright of its original author Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: My most awaited trip *This image is copyright of its original author Gaur at Tadoba: Talat Khalid *This image is copyright of its original author
RE: Big herbivores! - Pckts - 07-13-2018 I disagree @Rishi I’ve seen examples of it in Africa and India. To my naked eye, the largest Gaur I saw were for sure in Kanha, not saying there wasn’t overlap but certainly the biggest bulls I saw were there. Same with Ngorongoro Crater, without a doubt the biggest Bull Elephants I saw were there and while the capes were further off, they were definitely huge and probably the largest I saw as well.
