Yes, percentage of forests in Chitwan is probably much higher than in Kaziranga. Nevertheless hope one day number of rhinos there to surpass at least 1000.
And also probably the soil around Brahmaputra river (Kaziranga) is more fertile than the soils in any other park.

The thing about Chitwan is that the heart of the park is all forest 80% and hills 60% good for gaur, elephant, samabrs but absolutely not for rhinos- actually only the boundary area of the park north and south consist river basin and grassland- a prime rhino habitat. So, i hear that all in all the target rhino number for the park is only around 800-1000 along with the new comers-wild buffaloes and barasingha both grassland specialist as rhinos so any more rhinos will be translocated to Bardia, Shuklaphanta and also to koshi tappu far east.

Good news is that recently rhinos have been migrating beyond even Parsa national park so there are potential sites excluding Chitwan. Regarding the soil quality It's not a question of fertility but a basin or catchment area since Bramaputra river is very large and inundates massive areas and since kaziranga is a more flatter and prone to flooding it has less tree cover and more grassland which is why wildlife lives in such incredible density. on the other hand Chitwan has or will consist more varieties of wildlife i think.

Awesome!!! The buffaloes look fit & fat, no sign of genetic depression...

Isn't Chitwan the only place in the world which has both?

Yes, they look fit, mind you they are very few races of them left-Assamese one are of diff. subspecies.

Both buffaloes and gaur are also found in Manas Reserve no!! Maybe they are also found in Thailand and Cambodia but iam not sure in the same reserve though. But in Terai region, Gaur is rather restricted only to Chitwan, around 500 individuals tend to split into neighbouring Parsa and Valmiki side every now and then; the only place left for buffaloes in Terai is in koshitappu in Nepal's eastern terai, some 500 individuals reside here and it's the limit of the park. hence the reason why they are translocated to Chitwan. All the parks in terai are really exceptional for the future- with translocations being carried out Imagine the big herbivores nilgai, sambar, barasingha along with rhino, elephant, gaur and buffalo in these region.

Hope there are more than 1000 pure bred wild water buffaloes in the wild in India and Nepal and are maintaining healthy genetics.
