Talkin about Orpen Coalition, it looks like they are not sure how to deal with Red Road Male, he is almost the same size of Junior (Tintswalo words) and he is not fully grown, that wound on Junior face is deep and shows how strong RRM is... in my opinion the best thing for him would be to find a coalition partner.

As far as i've seen about two Opren males, when they are together, Buddy is the bigger one of the two.

For the RRM situation, Orpens always chase him away when they find him , problem is that Orpens have too many prides to control for only 2 males, when they are with 2 prides, RRM sees the opportunity and goes for the 3rd one.. That situation was first with Koppies and now with Nharus..

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Blondemane - 01-24-2020

Nah, for me Junior is bigger and more bulky than Buddy and im not sure about Buddy condition at this point. He was chased some times but app this time he decide to stay and fight (or he don't have another option) , now that's a big and deep wound in Junior's face.

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Potato - 01-24-2020

Orpen males have already large territory to patrol. If they would like to take controll over centrall Manyeleti they would probably have to vacate territory at Orpen Gate (Skorro pride) and so far they seem to have chossen keep that territory which force them to let go central Manyeleti and open possibilities for red Red Road male to controll that arena.  That is how it is looking like for now: Orpen males are setling with Koppies and Skorro prides and Red Road male is setling with Nharu pride. Mbiri pride vacate for now, females for this pride should very soon get into estrus and it is yet to be seen how will dominate that pride. Of course it would be greate for Red Road male to find coalition partner althrough coalitions are made to higher lion's hances to take over pride and since Red Road male already has a pride under control I do not think he will look for coalition partner.

Thanks Potato for sharing your point of view and think you are right, the chances of him get a partner at this point being dominant over a pride are too low, mostly impossible.

Who are this 2? New males in Manyeleti?

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Potato - 02-26-2020

Lion sightings have been plentiful. The Nharu Pride have moved further south away from the Main Dam area due to prey not being so reliant on this large water source for now. The Red Road male is often seen with them and this confident, large male continues to dominate the central Manyeleti. The Koppies Pride are mating with the Orpen Males and are frequently found around Honeyguide. The Orpen males seem to have lost control of the Skorro pride and don’t even move into the Kruger much these days. The Mbiris have been found a lot around Tintswalo lodge and the oldest lioness seems to be battling this summer and is losing a lot of condition and often lagging behind the Pride. The Talamati have not been seen much in the south but all 9 cubs are still doing well.

So did the Sumatra and Hercules males takeover Scorro pride? They where seen mating with few lioneses near Orpen Gate.
