RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Gijima - 10-22-2020

Hopefully at this stage, the males are still skittish and will run away with a few roars. One km is so close though... I’m glad Tintswalo keeps a good (accurate) record of their lions. Looking forward to an update on this situation.

I also glad that Tintswalo rangers (Neil Jennings and Alistair) are aware about their lions on his area. This helps a lot to all of we that we just follow the lion dynamics via Social Medias.

However,I doubt very much that they will run away with a few roars,Despite that they're moving through unwanted areas with big dominant males are presently the biggest coalition of four males in the entire Manyeleti Game Reserve. This means that if they are determined to took-over a pride. They more than sure will have success

Manyeleti update
Information proving by Neil Jennings
Hi Tino

1) Nharu/Mbiri update: We saw the Mbiri and Nharu yesterday but they were close to the KNP. I will check again in the morning

Orpen male update: Buddy has not been seen for a while, but I believe he is with the Koppies Pride which is laying low to avoid the Mbiri females in their territory

Koppies pride update: Haven’t seen the Koppies for a while

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Gijima - 10-23-2020

@"TinoArmando" Thanks for the update and good news about the Mribi males & Nharu Pride situation (for now).

I feel bad for the Koppies-- it seems like Junior's gone for good and with seven cubs I'm not sure how they'll do with no male protection. Buddy can't be too much of a help at this point.

Thanks for the words Gijima!
That's are really good news that Nharu and Mbiri were near of KNP. Perhaps they have went into Kruger National Park. once again
I would like think and most likely that both Orpen males spend time with the Koppies. But now as Junior is with the Mbiri females. So seems that he is showing more interest on those females who are in estrus

4 Male Lions on Buffalo Kill | On the Beat in the Manyeleti #123

The Mbiri/Nharu males feed on a buffalo, and the Birmingham male pays them a visit

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Potato - 10-23-2020

Nharu male with 3 Mbiri males on buffalo kill. Guide say that they are very big and impressive. He said that Nharu male is tallest of them (same said Djuma guide) althrough Mbiri males have more muscular bodys. Birmingham male also was seen at the same kill, but on the sight of Nharu and Mbiris he moved away. Guide say that he also has quite large body.

Those boys look very fit and healty and I do not see any coalition around that could stop them if they try to take over.

The Brimingham male, who was with the pride on 10/22, walked all the way south to where the Nharu/ Miribis were by himself?? I wonder if something happened in the evening and he got chased away again. As great as it is to see him it’s a bit worrying too... but gotta admire his boldness trying to approach these males.

Its not that far, Mbiris where somewhere in the mid Manyeleti, maybe Tintswalo, while Birminghams where around Orpens or maybe even closer south, its around 5-10 km.. Which is not that much for lion.. He prob seen vultures in the air from few km so he came to investigate..

I dont think he was chased, his leg is looking great, so prob he gain back confidence to go by himself a bit..

As you said, bold for him to get that close to 4 Mbiris, you can see on his face that he was thinking off going in, it would be awesome sighting if that happend.. But 4 males where too much..

Both Mbiris and Birmingham look fantastic, as guide said too very big males..

Agree, theres no coalition near by to stop them..

Imagine if Birmingham young male somehow joined them, that coalition would be terrifiying, by the eye, i think Birmingham is even bigger then them, massive male..

Mbiris/Nharu (rangers said that they will gave them a coalition name soon) :

This male is very similar to 1 of the Tumbela males, Scorro Jr.. Both have that Scorro look..
Also he remainds me a lot of young Tinyo, his uncle..

Youngest male:

I really hope this guys stay in Manyeleti/SS/Timbavati so we can have regular updates on them..

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Cath2020 - 10-23-2020

Dark Mane/Mohawk has that Sizanani look...

Yea, Snip Tail looks a lot like one of  the Tumbelas.  Very obviously sired by the same male.

Which lion do you think the others were sired by?

Was Sizanani or Scorro particularly tall lions?

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Potato - 10-23-2020

"Was Sizanani or Scorro particularly tall lions?"

Nope. Skorro even in comparision to Sizanani looked very short and Sizanani himself wasn't big at all either.

"very short" is a bit exageration.. He was slightly shorter, barely visible.. Scorro was tankier..

Also we dont know their true size compared to other lions, i think only report is that rangers said they where smaller then Avoca/Giraffes, but Avoca/Giraffes where biggest lions around, so that doesnt mean that Sizanani/Scorro where small..i think they where pretty average males..
