Manyeleti update
It’s been an incredibly interesting week in terms of the predator dynamics within the reserve and some big changes seem to be happening, and fast!
The 2 Orpen males continue to push more south and are now visually and vocally making their way more and more into the Manyeleti. Both males were mating with two of the Nharu females this week, and this is just what the pride needed. Meanwhile we viewed the 6 young males of the Nharu pride for the first time in a while around S8 dam. This morning we found them very close to Tintswalo lodge and they were in the presence of the old Avoca male. All 6 look in amazing condition and if they stay together will be a huge force in the area in the future.
Two of the Talamati females were found in the south with their 4 cubs. The cubs provide amazing viewing entertainment as the play with each other and with their mothers, a real treat for any guests to witness.
Still no sign of the 12 Mbiri members, and we wake up each morning hoping and wondering if they have made their way back from the Kruger National Park. They are probably wary of coming back into the area due to all the activity of the Orpen Males.

The Talamati Pride is now up to 9 cubs. The females and dark maned Avoca male are doing a fantastic job of keeping them safe in the south of the reserve. Great news is that we have also now seen 3 cubs with the Koppies Pride. The Nharu Pride has been seen frequently with all 6 females and 5 young males being together. We watched one afternoon as they brought down an impala in front of us. The Mbiri Pride have been seen less often in recent times and still move around the area of Tintswalo Lodge. We are still yet to see both of these notorious buffalo hunting prides take advantage of all the buffalo on the reserve at the moment. Perhaps as the winter draws on and the buffalo weaken slightly we will get more action.The old Avoca/ Giraffe Male is still moving around with the Mbiri Pride. The Red Road Male continues to roar and proclaim the central part of the reserve as his own, with very little attention from the Orpen Males. The Orpen males still tend to move up around the Northern parts of the reserve and this allows the Red Road male to continue to mate with some of the Nharu females. The Nkuhuma pride gave us a brief visit in the south of the reserve with the 2 other Avoca Males

Update:
Lion viewing has been phenomenal as always at Tintswalo with 6 different prides viewed in the past 2 weeks. The Skorro Pride, aswell as the Birmingham breakaway Pride paid us a visit in the northern parts of the reserve. The Mbiri Pride is doing very well and follow the buffalo and giraffe movements through their territory on a daily basis. We have seen them on both multiple buffalo and giraffe kills in recent times and the Pride is looking great. The Nharu Pride continues to move through the central parts of the reserve and are also enjoying the multiple buffalo herds around. The 5 young males are still with the 6 females and the old Avoca/ Giraffe male is often seen with them. The Koppies Pride have 3 cubs at the moment and the Talamati Pride in the south seem to have lost 1 cub and are down to 8 cubs. The Orpen males continue to dominate the northern part of the reserve and spend a lot of time patrolling between Kruger and ourselves.

nice photos and update potato. like to see junior matimba are doing well, orphen males are impressive.
in other hand, its nice to see an older lion (avoca) spending time with sub adults like that, roaming together, that pretty cool. for sure they will become a strong coalition, i hope.

We have been blessed with another amazing period of game viewing here at Tintswalo. We have had some out of the blue really hot weather forcing a lot of the animals to congregate even more around the remaining water sources, making for some great interactive sightings
Lions have stolen the show once again. Most prides have been seen, with a standout sighting happening just yesterday where we found the Birmingham breakaway pride surrounding the carcass of an adult female giraffe. They were not eating on it as the Red Road male and young Koppies male had chased them off. That night they were all feeding off the carcass together, but things were very hostile. The young Koppies male is finding refuge with the Red Road male due to the Orpen Males spending time with the Koppies females. An interesting thing is that the cubs are never with the females whenever they are with the Orpen Males and we haven’t once seen the cubs in the presence of the males, yet we always see them with the presence of Red Road with the pride. We have seen the females mating with both males before the cubs were born, so are still not 100% sure who the real fathers are. The Nharu pride are spending most of their time around main dam where they are picking off the odd buffalo that comes to the dam. Although we have not seen the cubs of the Talamati’s for a while we have seen some of the females in the south with the dark maned Avoca Male. The Mbiri pride managed to kill a wildebeest around wild dog dam but have been spending a lot more time in the Timbivati Game Reserve, probably due to the Orpen males presence.

Update
Lions have been plentiful once again. The Mbiri pride is doing so well in these dry times, eating frequently and catching big game. They have killed a couple of buffalo around the lodge and a lot of the reserves wildebeest have succumbed to them. They are back to their old selves. Eric had an incredible sighting of them a couple of mornings ago, where they cornered 2 Honey Badgers and ended up killing one. Honey badgers are known for their ferocious attitude and fight, and this battle ensued for over half an hour. Stay tuned for the video
The Nharu pride is still with their 5 sub adult males as well as the old giraffe male. This male just keeps on surviving and just shows you the true grit and determination of lions.
The Skorro pride was seen again up in the far north. This large pride of 16 made a buffalo kill up near sky beds dam. Their pride males, the Orpen males were with them. These males haven’t been back to spend any time with the Nharu females, just preferring to be with the Koppies Females and Skorro pride.

Above all I like this video for those who believe that male lions are lazzy and just wait for the lionesses make a kill.
