Recently they have been patrolling and extending their territory further east into the Kruger National Park, but seem to now be focused on spending time with the lioness.

are they Northern or Southern Avoca ? . they are with the Sand River pride, so they are Southern Avoca right ? it's just that their heads look more narrow in this pic , and the one on the left looks very similar to Mohawk ...  i still have a hard time telling them apart

its an old photo of them!

I do not know if it is. It was posted by Kirkmans Kamp facebook page at the same day I posted it here.

Recent photo of S.Avoca, Lazy-Eye male.
"I've been wanting to capture a portrait of a male lion like this for a long time... His face tells a story, that's for sure...
Their territory is shared between our concession and the Kruger National Park, but a recent pride take over by the Avoca male lions has ensured that we see this pride more regularly.
For Matt there is nothing more exciting that hearing the distant roars of lions in the early morning and then finding the males, females, and young ones together. There is something so ethereal about seeing lion cubs with their fathers - it is hard to believe that the impressive male lions were once cubs themselves.
Hopefully the Avoca male lions remain dominant long enough to allow their cubs to survive and become important members of the Sand River pride."  Credit to: Ranger Matt Smith

AVOCA MALES...

...beautiful encounter during one of our morning drives last year on their territory patrol. These two Males eventually managed shift their southern boundary line and managed to occupy the Nkuhuma females with great success! On the other side, Dark-maned decided to hang back with the Talamati pride and remained in the Northern parts of territory!
