Nikita is around 500 pounds and is heavier than both male lions are big cat rescue. Poor girl had such a hard life.

She does have a nice fat belly on her, however seems fast and agile, considering her big belly.

Quote:Nikita has flourished under our care.  She has grown into a tall, lanky, healthy lioness.  She’s extremely playful and loves to roll on her back and grab her paws or try to do somersaults whenever she has visitors stopping by to talk with her.   Though we wish she had the freedom she deserves, we’re so happy that she survived her earlier ordeals to enjoy the blissful days we try to provide for her here.

500lbs thats a big girl.
TFS

I would bet anything that lioness is no where near 500lbs. She looks no larger than most others, and 500lbs is almost unheard of for a lioness. In fact, I know of only two tigress that have hit 500lbs, one was in a australian zoo and she looked far larger than this girl.
It does say, "around 500lbs", obviously they haven't weighed her.

RE: Freak Specimens - TheLioness - 06-07-2014

I believe she looks close to it. Just because two tigresses have attained that weight a lioness cannot?

I'm sure they have weighed her, on one of their videos they mentioned her weighing more than the male lions there. It is highly likely she can attain that weight, big cats tend to become extremely huge in captivity.

I believe this one from the Czech zoo is over 500lbs but not positive.

Either way, That lioness doesn't look close to 500lbs IMO. I'm curious what others here will think.

She is huge because her father probably weighed about 900 pounds during its prime.

RE: Freak Specimens - TheLioness - 06-07-2014

You maybe correct, I emailed bigcat rescue to see if it was an estimate or if they have an actual weight on here.

The picture of the tigress, is there any with people? The tigresses really don't look that much different than the lioness, other than her lower legs looking small.

Nice videos but the confirmed email is around 500 pounds too you know.

RE: Freak Specimens - Pckts - 06-07-2014

That tigress looks a lot larger than the lioness IMO.
Not only that, the lioness is standing even higher up than the keeper and still doesn't look very long. Thin forearms, small neck/head region, etc...

I got this info on the 250kg tigress from AVA, so I'm not sure who got the weight info for that one.
She lives in a Czech zoo

and thats all I know. She definitely has a very thick frame though, woudn't be surprised if she was 500 lbs though.

RE: Freak Specimens - sanjay - 06-07-2014

Lioness look bigger in the picture. TFS TheLioness

RE: Freak Specimens - TheLioness - 06-07-2014

Thanks Sanjay I believe so too, you should see her with those huge play balls.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxOzUgLL964

She is a huge muscular lioness, her early life was horrible, glad to see her grow into a large agile muscular lioness.

Here she is compared to Bengali a siberian/bengal tiger mix born 1995. I scaled the balls to the same size as best as I could( the lionesses ball maybe a tad bit bigger), she is a big lioness no doubt, however I dont know Bengali's weight. She isn't skinny.

Tales of an African Vet By Roy Aronson mentions a lioness they had to dart and do surgery on was said to have weighed about 250 kilograms.

RE: Freak Specimens - Siegfried - 06-07-2014

This thread sure shows the potential for growth in big cats that have the luxury of an easy life coupled with an ample food supply.

RE: Freak Specimens - TheLioness - 06-07-2014

The man with the tiger in the bottom right, I've been to his tiger act. He has bigcat encounter, he normally brings one male lion but did not have him then. He had I believe a mixture of bengal, siberian, and one white bengal tiger. I recorded it long ago, I believe I even asked him who would win in a fight, however because it was such a long time ago, I don't recal, my mom has the video though, unless it got recorded over.

Thanks for sharing, such big puggy cats they are! However like the member said above me it is awesome to see them gain these weights under the luxury they have, some being obease however some being fit. I guess depending on the individual and what their enrichments are, they are able to stay fit, despite being 100 pounds heavier than their wild counterparts.

These aren't freak specimens.
Sorry this video is kinda lame, but the interesting part is the ending starting at 3:24 the zoo weighed the lion and a tiger to see who was heavier, the lion was around 250-255kg and the tiger was 203kg, the tiger looked bigger than what is was though.

These look like some big lions too

Once again, that is only a estimate. That is nothing more than any other big cat estimate and we don't use them for actual big cat weights, nor should we.
Also, trying to compare two different cats with so many different factors is not a useful to try and say "one is the same as the other" there are so many other factors that will come into play when comparing two completely different camera angles, distance, light, and so on..... Even so, you can see the skinny limbs and not especially large frame of the lioness.
