I also didn't think that Lion was especially large compared to others. Kevin Richardson's lions seem to be larger than that one when comparing them to a human.

well, I´d say the tiger yes, not extremely fat, but sure a bit more bodyfat than neccessary. The lion skinny? No, I just think he was a lean specimen. Some are big, some are average and some are below average. Sure, with a meal inside, he´d look abit more robust. But his length and height wouldn´t change. Height and length just isn´t that big on this lion. Even his skull isn´t that big for a lion. Tiger: Apart from overfeeding, maybe because some of those private owners give them stupid things like milk/whipped cream. Lion: I´ve seen quite a lot of videos, where they get a lot of chicken and not so much red meat, which they naturally consume. Just my 2 cents.

The tiger's belly hangs awfully low, so I'd say he IS rather obese.  While I am not saying the lion is emaciated or unhealthy, he IS skinny.  Just compare him to ANY of these guys.

A few of those pictures you are comparing it to are during or right after feedings. You can see the blood and carcass there, so they will obviously look more robust. I just thought the lion didn't seem especially tall or long compared to others. But its hard to tell when using a human for scale for one and not the other.

These are better looking representatives of their species.  Thank you.

I think, that first video displays very well the dog-like feature/build of (male) lions.

As some people might noticed, I´m not a fan of zoos unless they evolve into something, which only has animals part of highly endangered species, which are threatened by extinction, with the actual purpose to rewild them through breeding and suitable keeping, rewilding programms.

Second video: It´s the minium of dignity of treating animals, which are mostly unneccesary captured for us, but still an interesting interaction to watch.

That's an impressive mane. Barbary lions descendants?

RE: Freak Specimens - Apollo - 02-20-2015

Huge maned lion.
The Keeper said he weighs in 640lbs.

I can see why some people would want this type of "pet."  Not the best of ideas...
