Ahhh.... zebras are magnificent, that lioness for sure had to take a moment to remember where she was coming from and where she was going to go :)

Fabrizio Bignotti: " Lions. Buffalo was very strong. But eventually... "

They are certain of having some flesh to eat for the two or three following days...

Dereck Joubert: " They’re incredibly accomplished hunters that can bring down everything from wildebeest to zebras to buffalo and even giraffe. And while porcupines are certainly not preferred prey, interactions like this one do happen – but they’re a dangerous tangle. A lion facing off with a spiky foe can be seriously injured … and a quill lodged in the heart or a major artery can prove fatal. (This particular clip is from ‘Lions of Darkness'). "

Daniel Rosengren: " This African buffalo actually survived. I didn't think it would as there were over 30 lions in the pride and they had him pinned down to the ground. Yes, the majority of the lions were young and inexperienced and it almost seemed to me like most of the adults stood back. Maybe they wanted the youngsters to practice and learn from their mistakes.

In the end, what really saved this buffalo was his loud grunts. That brought 8 massive bulls to the place. There was a lot of commotion with lions and buffalos taking turns chasing each other, meanwhile this buffalo took refuge in a small river. In the end, the lions gave up.

RE: Lion Predation - Spalea - 07-09-2020

Jens Cullmann: " If we consider that a male lion needs about 8 kg of meat a day to survive, their need to hunt big game is understandable. Only a big 500kg antelope can provide enough food for a pride of lions to live in the wild; the rest is taken by scavengers and other animals that make part of this incredible circle of life. In this occasion the lionesses of the Pride killed even two pregnant gemsbok in one night. In the last weeks I posted already some images of this sighting. Scroll down to see more ... "
