Unfortunately we dont know if this guys are dominant there or still hanging in their natal area.. They look to be around 4 to 5 yrs old..

The last remaining Skybed male was photographed by Bernard Dupont on the H7 near Orpen back in Feb. 2014.

Those photos where taken in late 2019, he was seen near by with his pride and 2 sons, those sons are 2 young males seen recently (check post before) around Talamati area with a pride (idk if its their natal or they are dominant)..

This "Last Skybed" hasnt been seen since, so i think he passed away by now.. He was a beast, in my opinion bigger then Scar, but not as bulky..

RE: Skybed Coalition - Herekitty - 01-22-2021

On August 26 & 27, 2006, the photographer Patrick Truscott visited Ngala Game Reserve and witnessed the takeover of the Birmingham Pride by the three powerful young Skybed males. The young males evicted the two older males who had dominated Ngala for years, and immediately set about mating with the Birmingham females. Within the next six months the five Matimba males (minus Nduna) and their sisters - two of whom are the current Birmingham Pride matriarchs - were born. Truscotts' notes at the time describe the scene.

This guy has seen it all. He and his brother were in charge of the pride when we got to our lodge in Ngala and had been for some time. Little did we know, his days were numbered!

This handsome young devil might look relaxed but he's just having a rest during what turned out to be a pride takeover by him and his two brothers.

While looking for the brothers initiating the takeover, we stopped the vehicle and both our guide Mark and our tracker Norman got out and disappeared into the bush to look for some tracks. After a few minutes, this chap strolls out of the bush, (worryingly, not far from where the guys went!) and walks past the vehicle not twenty yards away, stops and stares, allowing me to take a photo (most kind!) and walks on. What a buzz! That night, they finalised the deal and were in charge by the following morning!

Shortly after taking over the pride, this guy gets his oats!

The old Skybed males on the H7, May, 2012. Images and text by pooky.
Today we decided to go down the H-7 towards Orpen - what a good decision that proved to be. This pride of lions consisted of 5 females, 9 cubs and two males. The males must have been brothers because they were very alike. The cubs appeared to be two or three different sizes. They weren't in a hurry and lay in the road waiting for the others to come across. The crossing must have taken nearly 30 minutes.

The old Skybed males at Tamboti May, 2012.
For Kruger this is a magnificent lion...The top lion in the Orpen area....the pride male of the Kingfisherspruit Pride, one that is not often seen as it stays north of the Timbavati river north of Tamboti camp. - Peter Betts, May 24, 2012

Kingfisherspruit Pride had 38 members back in the 1990. So, this is a very good find. Thank you for sharing

Last sighting was just over a year ago.

But 3 who split and moved further northeast, might be still alive, but unlikely as they would be 12-13 yrs old now.
