Quote:Not likely to repeat again and not really the prides fault.
Why not likely? They have a few months to raise cubs to indendency. Then Sassy and whoever will be left out of two elder lionesses will mate again and their subs will wander alone.

RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 07-27-2022

For starters.. there is only one male cub. Its unlikely he is going to take off one day and take all 4 female cubs with him. So a repeat Gingerella is unlikely.

Males didnt "took" Gingerella, she, just like them, couldnt go back to the pride because she would get killed by new males, as she was too young to mate.

So, if Gingerella had 3 sisters, outcome would be the same, and those 4 would be a Othawa breakaway.

So, scenario as Gingerella is likely, if Othawas stay here, and if Othawas manage to raise them for another  half year - year, Othawa adults (or maybe just Sassy at that point), will be back in estrus and will accept new males (just as they did in Hairy Belly to Tumbela transition), 4 young females will still be way to young for mating and would be killed by those males, meaning they will breakaway.

Unless Othawas go completley nomadic, in that case, adults might stay with young females until they are mature (Styx pride case) and mate together with new males, most likely in different area.

But, scenario, that Othawas stay in western sector and eventualy accept new territorial males, those subs would need to breakaway, i dont see PC boys (if they become Othawa pride males) accepting the subs.

RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 07-27-2022

The issue with Gingerella was more that she was dragged along when the boys went nomadic as males do. Rather than sticking around and staying in contact with the pride. If it was up to her she would have stayed as she is doing right now.

I dont think this new group is going to split that easily. Once they reach a mature age there is no telling in what shape the two elderly lionesses will be. Any surviving lionesses willing to mate will more likely just leave the pride themselves for a quick affair rather than having all 3 adult females staying full time with the males.

A bit what we are seeing with the Mhangeni

Besides, can we truly speak of a breakaway if the split off group is bigger and more likely to survive.

Gingerella tried to back to the pride, but the pride did not accept her since they have already had cubs.

Yes, but thats becouse she just popped up again after months of absence. As one of her brothers tagged along with her her chances of reintroduction were slim to none.
Then she started hanging out with the Ximhungwe lioness, making things even more complicated.

Its said that Gingerella lost her Virginity.
So thats one les thing to worry about.

Doesnt seem to succesful. But still a huge step for her.

RE: Othawa Pride - Bellateda - 07-29-2022

Sadly, she won't find any pleasure...

RE: Othawa Pride - Tr1x24 - 07-30-2022

This is excellent news, as now both females might concieve around the same time and start new pride together.

Gingerella is still a bit young to go into oestrus. But anyways it would be great of her and Ximungwe start a new pride, both for them and the Othawas since Nhena and NYM would have a pride of their own.

She's nearly 3 years and 10 months old, so she's not a bit young to go into oestrus. Sassy went into oestrus when she was 3.4 years old.
