That would be also better for Talamati pride if some new male(s) would takeover in form of either Imbali, PC males or Kruger males. Kambula and Nkuchuma pride as well would be better off with 3 Avocas together in charge. Isnt screenshot from that sighting posted here few weeks ago? After that they again separated, but its good to see that they are good which each others, in case that DM lose his territory. I doubt they will rejoin if situation stays like it is, both have their prides, and they are satisfied with that, as they where for 2-3 years, but yea, if DM got pushed out, he will prob seek his brothers. Avocas are not in charge of that pride, only 2 females. Because I do not believe current situation will hold for long. I believe Avocas will soon takeover that whole pride. It is unlikely Birminghams will raise anymore offspring in this pride to adulthood. Most likey it will be Avocas who will be raising next generation in that pride and the chances of that generation to reach adulthood will be greater if all 3 Avocas would be together insteed of just two of them. Its your opinion, but for now, Avocas are not pushing anymore south of MalaMala Main Camp for months now, in fact, they are more seen recently on Djuma and that area then in whole year. Also Bboys and 3 Kambulas with cubs are quite south now, pretty much out of reach if they completely dont abandond northern territory.. Its hard to predict what will happen, PC males might just oust N. Avocas for what we know, i kinda feel those 2 will have some role to play around central Sabi Sands. It's definitely an old sighting, But really great to know they could join again and stick together as three. Only time will tell.(10-24-2021, 06:29 PM)Timbavati Wrote: Great sighting of these two. RE: Avoca male lions - Duco Ndona - 10-24-2021 Aslong the Talamali have cubs that need protecting, its better if the Avocas remain split up so they can defend both prides. Otherwise DM will just abandon the Talimali leaving them wide open for a takeover. I don't think the Avoca's are planning to take over the Kambulas at the moment. They just expanded some teritory, which made them an interesting mating option and a problem for the nearby Kambulas. But they haven't made any moves to actually overthrow the BBoys. Its also difficult for a coalition to protect multiple prides scattered over a large territory. So them adding the Kambullas to their collection wont necessary give those cubs better odds than with the BBoys. Those "cubs" are pretty much in years where they dont need protection anymore and they can be independent if they need to (even now only 1 older female, occasionaly 2 with Silver Eyes are seen with them, rest are with Imbali male) DM is with them only because of food source at this point, as older Talamati females are choosing Imbali male for next generation of cubs instead of him. Its yet to be seen what DM and N. Avocas will do in future as even older Nkuhuma females who are back in estrus are chosing PC males for mating instead of them (i think its not reported that neither of Mohawk and Blondie where seen mating again with older Nkuhuma females). I think northern Sabi Sands are pretty much open for many possibility for future, will N. Avocas shift their territory and prides or not, 2022 will be interesting year in northern/central Sabi Sands. The Northern Avoca Males were seen together this morning resting in the shade, after what we presume to have been an intense evening of territorial patrols. We could hear lions calling all throughout the night. *This image is copyright of its original author

I guess, The camera lens make them look with a different skin colour. Its also because they're still young.
