Awesome stuff, I'm soo glad @Majingilane
Took control of the lion section, the ID's and stories that have come from this have only attracted my attention further towards these cats.

Thanks for all the hard work

Generally Lions kill hyena and leave them for scavenger like vultures. But probably this is very different scene which Inyati Game Lodge caught in their camera. According to them
"We witnessed the savage hatred that Lions have for Hyena this morning. After following spine chilling squeals and loud growls we came apon three lions feeding on a recently killed hyena."
The 4 Majingilane Lions from Sabi Sand caught and kill a hyena and what they did to the dead body is very surprising, they eat it. Probably it is due to the brutal nature of Majingilane Lions, their history is full of such brutal encounters. In most of time, lions don't like the taste of the Hyena meat, but these lions don't seem to be fussy about their choice of menu.

Don't ask me why, but these pictures for some reason, remind me of Lord of the Rings. When the orcs prevent the goblins from eating Merry and Pippen. One cuts the head off and yells 'meat's back on the menu, boys!"  Just one predator eating another I guess.

RE: History most brutal killer, the Majingilane Male Lions - Tshokwane - 09-23-2015

And it's not the first time it has happened.
This is an article from Londolozi, dated December 2010:
"For a single heart stopping moment, they stood and stared at each other with just meters between them.  Four male lions, confident and big, had piercing gazes locked on Adam and Solly.  A low growl sounded, reinforced by two, then three low rumbles from either side.   Stepping backward slowly, Adam and Solly created distance between themselves and the coalition eased back down into the grass, never letting their sights off the pair.  There was an undeniable tension in the air.  An intangible energy which had already set the Majingilane coalition on edge.  Something was in the air.  Something was up….

Two minutes later the four male lions got up and walked straight past the Land Rovers.  Suddenly, like a flash, one male set off at speed into the dense bush amidst rampant thunders of aggression.  Seconds later, the remaining three members of the coalition were by his side, forcing themselves onto his quarry, delighting in the savage violence they could inflict on the lone hyena....
There was nothing particularly unusual about this interaction between the 4 males and the hyena.  Male lions have an intense loathing for hyenas and typically act aggressively towards them.  Whether this is to secure their territory for the safety of the pride, for fun or simply as a revenge from earlier incidents is all debatable.

What I found to be fascinating about this interaction was the unbridled aggression that these dominant males displayed towards the hyena.  Merciless, demonstrative and intensely aggressive, the Majingilane Males look as though they are out to prove a point.  And whatever that point is, every lion, leopard and hyena in the are should take note.  The longer these Majingilanes move through their newly acquired territory, enforcing their rule, the longer they are going to here to stay!"

And this is the video and some images in it of the lads killing that hyena, back when they were still young.

The ideo from the lads eating the hyena. Very interesting to see Hip Scar third in place when it comes to eating. Maybe it was just by chance the Dark mane and Golden Mane got first, but anyway it is interesting, mostly because it was a small animal and if you recall, 5 years ago it used to be Golden Mane who had to wait his turn. Dark mane is still, as usual, dominant when it comes to feeding and Scar Nose was 60 m. from them, feeding on an impala.

Has anyone seen hip scar just wondering cause in the hyena video he looked kinda thin? Hope he is doing well but gold mane (three tooth) looks great

RE: History most brutal killer, the Majingilane Male Lions - Spalea - 10-11-2015

Even for the Majingilane lions time could be hard. To be reduced to eating an hyena... I saw other movies ("Dans l' arène avec les lions" from The National Geographic) explaining this fact was exceptionnal , how much the hyena's flesh seemed digusting to them.
And yes, to see the male lion of the foreground, so skin, almost emaciated...

RE: History most brutal killer, the Majingilane Male Lions - Tshokwane - 10-11-2015

I saw him a bit thin, but in all honesty I don't think much of it. I'm used to see him thinner than his brothers. I saw a pic some moments ago and they were enjoying a buffalo, so that will fill him up, all 4 of them were there.

@Spalea , about them eating the hyena, I think they were just hungry, so they gave it a go regardless of the taste. But aside from Hip Scar's usual thin frame, they look good and have enjoyed several buffalos since.

On a side note, this pic was posted yesterday, so I though I would share it, I love it.
