Scarface was very tired one morning in June. We found him during the sunrise at this rock. We waited until breakfast, he did not get up. After breakfast we drove back to him and then at 10 o'clock he stood up and turned around and after a few steps he had disappeared.

TERRITORY FIGHT IN NOTCH AREA:

Only a few days after Caesar disappeard and the power of the Notches is going down now, new male lions are coming up fighting for the territory and females.

This morning a real action thriller happend at Lookout area.

One actor was the young strong male, who took over the female few days ago. We call him Barnoti as he looks quite young for his age and has a short mane. Barnoti was mating with the female while Buddha and Slaver, the former Sandriver males, appeared and came straight to him. Slaver was following the female down to the small stream while Buddha chased Barnoti. As soon Buddha went back direction Slaver, Barnoti didn’t give up and followed him. But he recognized too late that slaver ambushed him and chased him finally far away.
Later the two old males were mating with the female.

Olbarnoti.

This is a lion called Olbarnoti, which means 'smaller boy'. He most likely got the name since he is smaller than his partner Lolparpit (which means 'big hair'). I'm a big fan of these kind of portraits, and was thrilled that I managed to capture a few of them myself on our latest safari on the Maasai Mara with David Lloyd Wildlife Photography.

It may look like a simple portrait like this should be an easy thing to capture, but I know by now that getting everything just right takes both skill and luck.

You can read more about Olbarnoti at Living With Lions: http://livingwithlions.org/mara/lions/olbarnoti/#tabs-1

Successful Earless Pride.

Grand Earless & Boxernose Pride had a great meal this morning.The four lion females started chasing two buffalo cows with one young calf.Earless and Boxernose were relaxing far away under the shade.As soon the females were calling the males for help , Earless immediately came straight to one of the buffalos and brought her down after only twenty seconds.

The young calf and the mother escaped. The females and all cubs were joining the males after the hunt and enjoyed their breakfast.

"Nature pick post everyday... this is Blackie, he's a mature male lion part of a coalition with another male called lipstick! I've met these guys a few times on the Maasai Mara, a privilege to visit and amazing to photograph the big cats who call it their home! Especially with top safari driver Sammy Kaleku! Thanks Eilidh Watson for the nomination"

@Tshokwane :

About #1137: May be am I far too impressed, but it's not the first time I think Earless gives off lot of force, lot of power. Like in this photo. Of course we don't see him close to other lions but he seems to be massive.

Just an impression.

I second you @Spalea
He seems to be Huge, can be comparable to any big male in Mara
Arguably biggest male in Mara at this point of time

@vinodkumarn

About #1139: May be too, I am bluffed because I saw Earless growing since his first appearances (photos #109 upon which he would be only 3.5 years old, #124, #154, #179 and so on inside this topic) in which he only had some tufts of hairs around the neck.
