Did she lose her cubs?

i have not seen any confirmation on the loss of her cubs.. but the fact that her back leg appears to be injured and she is limping does not bode well for those cubs or Gingerella... although someone from the Othawa Lion FB group stated today that Gingerella was nearby mating with the other PCM

RE: Lions of Sabi Sands - Duco Ndona - 11-15-2022

I dont think she lost the cubs yet. But we have to be realistic.
These cubs have as things are now a very low chance of survival. So she may as wel have.

RE: Lions of Sabi Sands - NLAL11 - 11-15-2022

I seem to remember reading/hearing/learning somewhere that lionesses that have just had cubs will mate with new/rival males as this can sometimes trick the males into believing the cubs are theirs, as male lions (obviously) have no concept of gestation periods.

So especially if the PC Males just quickly mate with them and then bugger off back to the mangheni or Nkuhuma breakaway, it might work. Fingers crossed.

Also apparently one of the Nkuhuma breakaway lionesses hasn't been seen in ages. Anyone know anything about that?

RE: Lions of Sabi Sands - Tr1x24 - 11-15-2022

Tbf, this is the best outcome for Ximunghwe and Gingerella, to accept PC males and start rebuilding the pride with them.

PC males are territorial males in whole area, they are young, and should be around for long time.

Ximhungwe/Gingerella now raising cubs which are not from PC males, in their territory, means that they would need to avoid them and again be nomadic pride for ~ 2 years, which would be hard to achieve, eventually those cubs would prob be killed and  females will be aswell in constant danger to be killed by them. They might get the same outcome as Othawa pride.

Them accepting PC males is best thing for them, even at cost of Ximhungwe cubs, who are prob already gone.

RE: Lions of Sabi Sands - Duco Ndona - 11-15-2022

True. And that is probably what she is trying to do now. But these are newly born cubs that she has to fool 3 coalitions into believing they are theirs now.

In the end those cubs are going to be introduced to one coalition, and then by the time the turn of the other groups takes their turn, they will have the smell of that coalition. Making acceptance difficult, even if they are the actual biological fathers.

I havent heard anything about that lioness. But with the PCmales hanging out with the Mhangenis now, and them being a relative young pride. They may just be extra carefull.

Not sure, but he was seen walking in North of Sabi Sands by WildEarth live in late September. After that, nothing.
It's still possible that he has either abandoned the Torchwood pride or changed the area. Hopefully we will see him soon.

Not sure, that right whisker doesnt seems to match from this angle.

How can you even see anything about whiskers from that 1 pic? It is so blurry. Unless your using another clear pic? Never understood how you guys match whisker spots.

You clearly see that right whisker lines dont match, on first pic 2 upper lines are in straight line, while in 2nd pic they are curved, although it might be because of low quality.
