It is known from skull material found in the Brazilian and Peruvian Amazon, Colombian Villavieja Formation, Panamanian Culebra Formation and the Urumaco and Socorro Formations of northern Venezuela. This indicates how widespread the wetlands such a large caiman would require to survive were across South America in the Miocene.

" Desmatosuchus is a genus of archosaur* belonging to the Order Aetosauria. It lived during the Late Triassic.
Desmatosuchus was a large quadruped upwards of 4.5 meters in length. Its vertebral column had amphicoelus centra and 3 sacral vertebrae. The scapulae had large acromion processes. The forelimbs were much shorter than the hindlimbs, with humeri less than two-thirds the length of the femurs. The pelvic girdle consisted of a long pubis with a strong symphysis in the middle, a plate-like ischium, a highly recurved ilium, and a deep, imperforate acetabulum. The femurs were relatively long and straight, the ankles crurotarsal, with calcaneal tubers that gave it large heels. "

*The archosaurs were broadly classified as reptiles. The living representatives of this group consist of birds and crocodilians. This also includes all extinct dinosaurs, pterosaurs and extinct relatives of crocodilians.

Boar croc - Kaprosuchus it was a espectacular croc with its extremely long fangs, at first they estimated that they measured about 6 meters long but their size was corrected according to the length of the skull 50 cent long it is estimated that it measured about 3,6 meters long.

Crocodiles tend to have V-shaped noses, while those of caimans and alligators are more rounded and resemble U's.

So, Purussaurus is not a crocodile but a caiman.
