RE: Othawa Pride - T_Ferguson - 08-20-2024 I do worry that the PCM's will abandon these 2 after the deeds are done... I don't like the constant interaction with the Magheni's. RE: Othawa Pride - Mapokser - 08-20-2024 Of they successfully take over the pride they'd likely abandon the Ximgungwes. TThey always abandon the oldest pride, if Tsalala had a partner they'd likely have abandoned Ximgungwes for them already. And then leave Mangheni's and Ximungs hung out and looking to beat up on the Othawa's. It's just not a nice situation. The PCM's are turning out to be a problem duo.... RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 08-20-2024 They have a good reputation for securing lots of prides, but in reality most of it boiled down to luck. Now they need to actually step up as territorial males we see that they in reality aren't all that competent. They probably wont just abandon the Ximhungwes. But the two prides have a bad history if it comes to sharing their pride males territory. It is interesting that most of the clashes have involved pitting the PCmales against Mangheni though. Reintroducing the PCmales to that pride in that atmosphere while Tumbella is still around could have explosive results. Atleast this threat for Othawas is gone now. RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 08-21-2024 Normally yes. If they gained some males of their own that they dont have to share with half of the reserve. In the current situation however, the males will likely abandon them in a few weeks and the pride might try to seek them out, bringing them in contact with other prides. Not to mention that there is still a chance that the PCmales attack them later. So the girls are now more at risk than they were a few weeks earlier. Besides, if they are ready to mate and have no cubs of their own to defend, they have little to worry from rival males. Normally this is when a pride would seek out other males and encourage a takeover. If the PCmales were indeed in the process of abandoning the west. It may have been better if they went into estrus later and perhaps hook up with Nym & co. RE: Othawa Pride - Tr1x24 - 08-21-2024 (08-21-2024, 02:01 PM)Duco Ndona Wrote: Normally yes. If they gained some males of their own that they dont have to share with half of the reserve. Prides "cant" seek new males. Prides have their territory where they hang, and which coalitions control that territory, they will mate with them, thats how it works (unless theres up and coming coalition in the area or near by, so they chose them instead of former coalition from who they already have offspring). PCMs are only territorial males in the west atm, with no challengers. So Othawas have no options, and its not like they (or any other pride) know that these males wil abandon or will not hang with them.. As I said, this is excellent news for Othawas (and as we saw, PCM already defended them against Mhangeni female, atm Othawas are 1st priority for PCMs in the West). RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 08-21-2024 Your kinda missing the point here. Which is that the pride does not need protection from other males at this moment. As any male that shows up right now would be a viable pridemale and not a threat. And what if they run into the Manghenis while looking for the PCmales and Mak isnt around to save them? This isnt the finish where the girls are finally safe. But rather a transition into a new stage in their lives with new challenges and threats that may very well still snuff out the pride if they arent carefull. Threat from Mhangenis and Ximhungwes is still here yes, but atleast they dont need to worry about getting killed by local territorial males.. So 1 less major threat? Big win for young Othawas. In the end, theres no 2nd option for Othawas except PCMs anyway, so idk why we are we even discussing. They accepted local territorial males, thats best option for them atm. Nobody is saying they are 100% safe, as they are weakest pride in the area. RE: Othawa Pride - Mapokser - 08-21-2024 Speaking of weakest pride, it's interesting to see how their personalities changed after they matured and learned. When they were 2yo they were very bold, attacking leopards, fighting hyenas, trying to feed with the 2 Talamati males and not fearing injured Nhenha during a feeding frenzy, hell they even chased the Mangheni pride before Manghenis turned the tables on them. But now they learned their lesson and are much more cautious, avoiding NK Breakaways, Manghenis and even running from a single Ximhungwe. I agree, when they chased the Manghenis off of that kill, that was really shocking, but there were three subs and Sassy at that time. Even Sassy knew it was a bad idea, she stayed back in the brush for a moment, when the girls rushed in, and the Manghenis scattered. I think, in that @Tr1x24 was correct, when he said that the Manghenis had no pride males at the time, they were semi-nomadic, and they were unaware that Skorro Jr was no longer with the Othawas. Also, as you mentioned, standing up to those hyenas, there were still three of them, but Sassy had already been injured by the Xims when that happened. Those girls were always brave, but I'd say they have had some luck involved as well, such as with the Manghenis. Now they seem to have found some wisdom to go along with that courage. Though we will be sleeping a lot easier once they are done mating and things settle in a new normal. RE: Othawa Pride - Mapokser - 08-22-2024 @BA0701 I wasn't even talking about that time with Manghenis at the kill, but more recently when the 2 subs saw the the Mangheni pride and for whatever reason gave chase. Manghenis later turned back and chased them. It was unreal because Manghenis were territorial with cubs and under PCM, while Othawas were only 2 and 2yo. On that, there is no dispute. Forcing motherhood on 3 and half year old lionesses is great if they could manage to take care of the cubs well enough. Seems its going in that direction. Let’s see, I could be wrong. |
