RE: The Birmingham Males - vinodkumarn - 12-07-2017

A sad way to end the most magical week on safari. The death of a lion - a harsh, but real reminder about the difficult life these incredible animals live. Early this morning one of the Birmingham males came into the northern portions of Londolozi and killed this sub-adult Tsalala lioness. Her body was still warm when I took this photo. Rest in Peace

A male lion walks alert, as he extends into a new portion of territory, already occupied by other males. The next few weeks could be an exciting time here at @londolozi with the arrival of the Birmingham male coalition, threatening the now aging Majingilane males.

To me, the dominant male is #1, Nsuku. He's older, and I've never seen him displaced by his brothers in any sense.

The the second is between #2 Nenha and #3 Tinyo, but what is sure is that #4 Mfumo is at the bottom of the hierarchy. Maybe now that thye have more land he isn't bullied as much as before, but I don't think he's more dominant than any of the other.

Over at FB people say that Mfumo's dominant because they like him and prefer him, so it clouds their judgement.

There is footage of mfumo dominating tinyo over mating rights so him being at the bottom of the hierarchy not quite such a sure thing, he's at the lower end of the hierarchy but he doesn't get "bullied" so to speak.

When?

Because let me tell you that the only footage I have seen is of #3 slapping him in every direction and then staying all smug as the females yelled at #4 for what #3 had done.

Now, unless you consider #4 having his turn with the girls "dominating Tinyo", then I don't see how it applies.

Like I've said, I don't think #4 is bullied anymore, that was back when their land was slightly smaller and they only controlled the Styx annd Nkuhumas.

But also, that doesn't mean he's any higher in the hierarchy.

I think nsuku is without a doubt still the dominant male the rest is up for grabs maybe nhenha is the second most dominant male but since he is more often than not separated from the rest it's hard to tell where he lies within the coalition.

Between Mfumo and Tynio they used to fight quite a lot but that hasn't happened for more than a year as far as we know, that probably means they have settled who is the more dominant of the two or there is just no need to fight because  they almost have one pride for each member specially now that nhenha is pushing into Londolozi and mating with one of the Tsalala's lioness and all the mating and interactions they've been having with the Kambula lionesses, they currently have three prides.

Nsuku normaly stays with the Styx pride, Tynio and Mfumo take turns between the Nkuhumas and Torchwood pride and Nhenha is trying to find a pride for his "own".

Unfortunately there is no real way to know for certain unless we see them at a kill or fighting for mating rights and the second option is not very likely.

RE: The Birmingham Males - Abomai - 12-20-2017

Mfumo hasn't been at the bottom for quite some time.

Tinyo is the third lion with the darker mane, not those two.
