RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 08-20-2019 Surprise ! RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 08-26-2019 First subject of this depiction: the classic fight - for us nevertheless - between t-rex and triceratops. Second subject: in the background the deadly rain of the asteroids involving the end of the Cretaceous period and thus the last day of the dinosaurs. RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 08-26-2019 About #77: I forgot to indicate this depiction was made by Joe Tucciarone, whose link of his site - devoted to the prehistoric life, particularly about dinosaurs - is: http://joetucciarone.com/joe.html RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 08-28-2019 What a scrum ! If the t-rex hunted really in pride, the lone triceratops (solitary big males for example...) could have something to worry about. RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - GuateGojira - 08-28-2019 Despit its length diferences, the Tyrannosaurus rex and the Triceratops (horridus or prorsus) where about the same weight, with a little advantage on the herbivore side. If we try to found a modern comparison I will say that will be an Amur tiger and a Russian wild boar, both reaching the 200 kg but with boars going a little more heavier. I put the boar not just becuase of the size but also the attitude. I mean, Triceratops doesn't look like an animal that will run away from a fight. O yes, we are just speculating, but based in the fossils, Triceratops had injures of T. rex and had survived! So, I guess, and some Paleontologist too, that Triceratops do fighted back and will be a very dangerous prey for T. rex. Just to give an idea, we know that the largest T. rex skulls reached about 1.5 meters long, but the longest Triceratops prorsus skull was a magnificen specimen of about 2.5 meters long (reconstructed) and is identify as MWC_7584, here are some images: As it was found: *This image is copyright of its original author Original: *This image is copyright of its original author Reconstructured: *This image is copyright of its original author With other specimens (some of them are no longer clasify as Triceratops): *This image is copyright of its original author So Triceratops was an incredible dinosaur, a defender and probably a good fighter. For nothing is my favorite dinosaur after T. rex. RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 08-28-2019 I know that triceratops had injures from t-rex and survived. This allowed to estimate the t-rex's bite force and first at all that the t-rex could really be an hunter, and not only a scavenger. Of course, we can only speculate... Did any triceratops adapt a solitary life as some extant big bull bovids do ? Thus they would be vulnerable. Were the t-rex able to hunt in pride, adults and youngs mixed ? I believe as you do that a solitary triceratops was a very dangerous opponent for a solitary t-rex. Even if its horns weren't perhaps as sturdy as we could think. In any case, if the t-rex could hunt in duo I think they would definitely have the upper hand. RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 08-31-2019 Famous depiction of the T-rex scaring away some small dinosaurs (ornithomimus ?). RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 09-02-2019 T-rex's head: It is said it's a male t-rex's head. How would be a female t-rex's head ? Is there a big difference between them ? Although nice depiction ! Is there a big difference between them ? So far, there is no conclusive evidence that females are much larger than the males except Pete Larson and some paleontologists who shared his views. But Larson is pretty biased when it comes to whether there are sexual dimorphism in Tyrannosaurs or not. RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 09-02-2019 @johnny rex : About #84: Agree with you, we don't have any certainty about a really bigger female's size. The depiction I posted was unless scale or indication of size. and, to my knowledge, there isn't any distinctive features of the head concerning the male or the female t-rex... RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 09-08-2019 Nice depiction of t-rex... RE: Tyrannosaurus rex - Spalea - 09-09-2019 Nice depiction by Michael Skrepnick: a striped t-rex claming its rigths on the also striped triceratop's body.
