Leopard predation on free ranging Cattle in China.

"From 2015 to 2019, we recorded 207 cattle predation events by leopards and 190 of those events had date information. Most of the depredation events occurred in the growing seasons (96%, n = 183) and calves were killed in 85% (n = 161) of the cases (Fig. 6)."

"Suraj's third horse also became the victim of the henchman.

There is once again the fear of Guldar in Guchupani area of the capital Doon. Guldar devoured another horse of Suraj Chhetri in the early hours of Monday.

Due to this there is panic among the people and anger against the forest department. According to people, Guldar has killed many animals, but the Forest Department has not made arrangements to catch it.

Suraj Chhetri had five horses. Guldar had earlier made two of these horses victims and killed one at 3.30 am on Monday. As soon as there was a loud neighing sound of the horse, Suraj ran outside. Tthe henchman killed the horse

They saw that the henchman had killed the horse and was eating the rear part of its body. The villagers gathered and somehow drove away the henchmen. On information, a forest department employee reached there.

Suraj Chhetri says that the forester of the department asked him to bring a doctor for post-mortem and left. DFO Sushant Patnaik said that the matter will be investigated seriously. Soon a cage will be installed to catch Guldar."

A trap cam video of a horse that was killed by a large male leopard.

"We found a horse carcass on the foothills of a small rocky hill. The next evening, we set up a trap camera on the kill.

To a welcoming sight, our massive Alpha Male ‘The Boss’ came back to its hard earned kill for dinner. We were overwhelmed to see that the big old veteran is still taking on bigger prey than himself and succeeding without too much collateral damage."

Description of interaction between a leopard and a wild boar over an adult sambar kill of the leopard.

From 'Leopard and wild boar sharing a rare meal in the Shiwalik foothills, HimalayasLINK

Abstract

Understanding the interspecies interactions between predator and prey is important to assess the prey preferences, species coexistence, and abundance for creating conservation and management strategies. In India, many studies have been conducted to understand interspecific interactions between large carnivores and their prey. But to our knowledge, no study has recorded the interaction between leopard Panthera pardus and wild boar Sus scrofa feeding on a sambar Rusa unicolor kill of a leopard. We present the first photographic evidence of such interaction between predator (leopard) and prey (wild boar) feeding together on a carcass in the Shiwalik foothills of the Himalaya.
