Im truly suprised that they hhave been doing so well by themselves at this age. In human terms its like 2 13-14 yrs old girls living by themselves

Its not that odd i think.
The most crucial months were the first ones. After that they have adapted and barring some bad luck can survive on their own and will make it to adulthood. Barring some bad luck like an accident or sickness.
Most sub adult lionesses are strong enough to deal with most problems the savanna may give. Be it avoiding threats or securing food. In a pride they are just pampered by the lionesses which allows them to mentally stay cubbies much longer.
Those girls also are not much of an target without any adult lionesses or pride males around. So male lions are more likely to see them as a weird pride thats easy to munch food off. Than cubs standing in between them and an adult lioness that need to be dealth with. We saw the same thing with the Ximhungwes subs, which were seen sharing a kill with the Majinjanes.
Our data also only goes back only a few decades and only a few reserves are covered enough to be accurate. So stories like these are probably a lot more common, just never documented. I think there is even some room to go even younger. If the poor cubs have luck on their side.

She is also the one believed to have attacked the big Ravenscourt male where she almost looked like an adult female next to him.
But thinking about that now I don't even know I can say her sister is on the smaller side since the third sister who died was much smaller than even the current smaller sub:

Yes, but this is assuming the lionesses are from the same mother, which we are not 100% sure of. It's well known that the smaller one MIGHT not even be the 'older' ones sister....not if she was from the last Mapogo Daughter + different sire (remaining Tumbela according to physical appearances) Her body and muzzle is decidedly smaller, plus they don't even have the same coloring. Remember all the cubs from the last litter are about 6 months younger.... However, if she is from the same litter, she's definitely not a runt, as the third sub was also her size....unless both were runts.

I have sightings of both litters at their presentations to the pride And The two Othowa litters were no more than 8-10 weeks apart. It was not 6 months.

@Cath2020 older litter was born in march and younger litter in may. Only 2 months difference.
The surviving smaller sub is the second biggest of the 3 last ones, the one who died was the smallest of the 3, the one who could possibly be from the younger litter, 2 current ones are 100% littermates from the oldest litter.
Still, after spending quite some time comparing their whiskers spots, I think even the smallest one who died was a littermate to the 2 surviving ones.

I'll definitely begin feeling better about their odds once they start coming into estrus. It may not happen right away, given their nomadic lifestyle, but one can hope. Tsalala has been of age for a little bit, and there has been no word on her in that regard either, in fact I have not heard much about her in some time. My guess, at this point, would be that PC males would be the likely candidates, given their control of the area, but with so many stragglers wandering about, it could be anyone just as easily. I only hope that these three lionesses can begin the rebuilding process, and restore both prides to their former glory, what a success story that would be.
I have the same hopes for the Ximungwes as well, but I think their odds are a little better than these three, given Queen Ximungwe's experience.
