RE: Modern weights and measurements on wild tigers - SpinoRex - 03-07-2022 Info on a Kanha Male Age: 5 years Weight: 180 kg (The male looks ok but really short if you ask me). Numerous sources say the same thing (the numbers mentioned above) *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author

It also sounds like he was translocated there after straying too close to human settlements originally. Also, weights from TOI or daily express are generally estimates. But being that age it’s well on its last leg. RE: Modern weights and measurements on wild tigers - Charger01 - 03-07-2022 Old tiger, probably beaten up by younger males. Must have been 200 kg+ in his prime. An opinion of mine is, I´ve noticed most of these stray non territorial rescued tigers are usually in the range of 170-190 kg. Meaning being in this weight range probably puts them at a disadvantage for competition with other males. This tells how intense the competition between male tigers is. If it´s a male tiger under 190, 200 kg, it will most likely get displaced. Agreed Generally any Tiger forced to live on the outskirts where they must risk human conflict is usually old, sick or just unable to hold a prime territory. You see this quite often in well known reserves. Wagdoh, Munna, Uma, bamera etc. once they’re defeated and forced into the buffer they never regain their old territory and sometimes even become problem cats. RE: Modern weights and measurements on wild tigers - Ashutosh - 03-07-2022 @Khan85 me and Rishi discussed this point long ago in some thread. There was an exception, though. Tigers straying out from Pilibhit and Dudhwa measured over 200 kilos with one weighing 209 kilos and another weighing 235 kilos. Both were young tigers and the one weighing 235 kilos had some major injuries. Tigers straying out of South Indian reserves most definitely fall in the 170-190 kilo range. Whereas, the Central Indian ones are a bit heavier on average. Also do you have more info on the 209 and 235kg males? RE: Modern weights and measurements on wild tigers - Ashutosh - 03-07-2022 @Pckts, the 235 kilos male is named Chedilal, was infamously referred to as the Maneater of Mailani. He was barely 4 when captured and had a cataract in his eye and a broken canine. He was most likely pushed out by a bigger male. Here is a great write up from WTI itself about Chedilal: https://www.wti.org.in/news/the-man-eater-of-mailani/ I will need some time to get the 209 kilo male as well. Great info, being a notorious cattle killer surely helped with his weight too. RE: Modern weights and measurements on wild tigers - Charger01 - 03-07-2022 I think the 209 kg tiger that @Ashutosh is talking about is the 4yo stray male tiger from Dudhwa whose information was given by Dr. Ahsan. It was 210 kg to be precise.
