RE: The Terai Tiger - Ashutosh - 01-10-2021 @parvez these tigers are being translocated from Corbett. Tigers from Corbett are not inbred. How stocky is this male from Corbett? Tigers from Corbett are not inbred. I think he's basing it on a study on their genetics... He showed me once. But the population there is simply too large & well-connected to be inbred for long. Most likely Corbett core tigers couldn't be ousted by outsiders & resulted in a local inbreeding. The male settling in. RE: The Terai Tiger - parvez - 01-11-2021 @Ashutosh woo he is so stocky. But as @Rishi pointed out, I have a genetic study in which corbett and rajaji tigers were slightly inbred. It is good if it doesnt have any effect. But generally speaking should have preferred other locations. RE: The Terai Tiger - Pckts - 01-11-2021 Corbett has one of the largest Tiger populations, I have serious doubts inbreeding is a rampant issue there. RE: The Terai Tiger - Rishi - 01-13-2021 He fled from his soft-release enclosure, lol. Tore his collar, jumped out or dug below the fencing & ran. They thought he was still in there due to the collar's signal. Then they tryied to locate him manually. Yesterday a camera-trap got a picture of the tiger strolling two kilometers away from the fence. *This image is copyright of its original author

RE: The Terai Tiger - Ashutosh - 01-19-2021 @Pckts, apparently he has had that snare for more than 2 weeks and was also confirmed hunting with the snare around his neck. The Forest Department claim they can’t locate him because his range exceeds 25 sq.km and he is on constant patrol. I'm sure he can make due if he's already hunted but no need to expose him to infection if they don't have to. RE: The Terai Tiger - Ashutosh - 01-19-2021 Nah, they need to find him fast. Apparently, his territory is massive as it extends from Dudhwa into Kishanpur (much bigger than 20 sq.km, close to 60 sq.km) as he has been camera trapped in both zones. And, the nylon snare (intended to kill a boar) has been around his neck since December 17th (so, it’s been a month). As veterinarians have said, because this is winter time, maggots haven’t formed, otherwise he would have been dead by now. Very lax from the department. They haven’t been able to find him for a month!! It also tells you how elusive these tigers are especially when they don’t want to be seen.
