"both lone and grouped lions hunting down adult rhinos, although these hunts, of course, took quite a long time to accomplish but were still done."

No lone hunts on adult rhinos I have seen, predation on adult rhinos by multiple lions, sure, even one source of 2 male lions possibly preying on an adult Rhino but still not witnessed on how the hunt actually occurred.

@Pckts I have seen the really ugly side of both captive and wild Cape buffalos, we where charged by a three bulls in Krüger, but what stands out is how they dominated female rhinos and elephants, and used the males to spare with the bulls, although being thrown like a raggdoll they always came back, until the bigger animals got phsyced out and backed away.
Still ofc if the bigger animals had decided they would have smached the buffalo, but he still managed to force them to retreat.

That's why they stand out.  Happy

Interesting, we had very different experiences with capes. The ruler of the Serengeti is the elephants, everything moves out of their way, capes included.
Maybe the bachelor party could of messed with the black rhino but definitely not one on one, although capes being tenecious, like the one sparring with the white rhino which died afterwards, they seemed to be extremely cautious. The only experience I've had with them in captivity was from the SD wild animal park in which our zoologist guide said they were pretty placid and the gaur were the aggressive bovine there. They also had to remove the male one horned rhino for being to aggressive with the non breeding females.

Amazing account that really proves and shows the power of a male lion!!

A lion in the Pilanesburg National Park attacked and killed a Black Rhinoceros just hours before this picture was taken. If you look close, you can see blood on his face. I understand why the lion is king of the jungle.

Did lions in Rome ever fight animals in groups or did the romans put them 1v1 against other animals and what type of lions did Rome bring in?
