RE: Othawa Pride - Horizon - 11-13-2022 We need 24/7 cameras on these three. RE: Othawa Pride - BorntobeWild - 11-13-2022 I am still mourning the loss of Sassy. I can't stop thinking about what made her die out so quickly. I agree with @1ofcourage and @Duco Ndona. Either she got brain damage or a wound infection or both, otherwise, there was no reason that she could move around perfectly yet not be able to hunt. Still, hope the game reserve one day can officially announce the causes of her death. Yes, lions dont care that much of bloodlines, its all about what current group you belong. Othawas rejected Gingerella when they had new cubs with Tumbelas, at that point Gingerella and Othawas are direct competition and enemies. RE: Othawa Pride - criollo2mil - 11-15-2022 Sharing this letter which confirms there was indeed INTERVENTION RIP Sassy. RE: Othawa Pride - Tonpa - 11-15-2022 Gotta say, contacting the NSPCA is an interesting way to get around the silence of the local guides. I do wonder what the full extent of her injuries were. In 2011 a female leopard Mabirri was euthanised in the western sector after she was no longer able to hunt due to a warthog slicing her paw open. R.I.P Sassy.. Glad to know they are monitoring the three youngsters. RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 11-15-2022 Not sure what to think of this. A lot of the lions that the fandom cried should have been euthanized ended up making full recoveries or showed themselves to be perfectly capable of living with their condition. I fear this sets a very bad president in Sabi Sands. Especially if this means they are going to intervene by helping these animals. We can only hope that they made full estimations before they put the animals to sleep. You gotta trust somebody and I am sure they followed the principles. Euthanization is not unusual in Sabi Sands and similar reserves, but its only made when they are 100% sure that animal will die. If i remember correctly, Ginger Matimba was also euthanized, aswell as Junior Matimba. They prob euthanize all animals they find who are dying. This is not bad, as there is no need for animal to suffer more, and you are not messing with nature, as that animal would die anyways. RE: Othawa Pride - 1ofCourage - 11-15-2022 She had no help, no back up, no defense coming. I think there were more attacks than were seen and she was a sitting duck for more. Everything changed so quickly! Sassy couldn’t get away from 3 male and two female lions on the attack while healing and providing for herself and the cubs. And then there were the PC males and hyenas, too, always lurking. Sassy beat the odds and survived, but could do no more for herself. Just one helper and I think she would have made it. RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 11-15-2022 Yes, I am aware they do that. Its the role of public pressure in this case that worries me. I don't think this was the "Action" the public was clamoring for. public pressure has always existed....this is not new or unusual. there was actually more public clamor and pressure regarding both Tumbelas than i ever saw of Sassy (her situation was more sudden/shorter and likely uber critical) RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 11-16-2022 Its the first time I know of animal protection groups gotten involved though. This has been brewing for a while now and has only gotten worse recently. I think Sassy was just the proverbial drip. RE: Othawa Pride - criollo2mil - 11-17-2022 The Othowas…date taken is unknown. Posted 14 Nov RE: Othawa Pride - Maghreb - 11-18-2022 (11-09-2022, 01:54 AM)Tr1x24 Well we can look at the example of the old Castleton Pride, whose name was changed, based on the area they were most seen. The Ravenscourt and Tsalala females that joined the pride were eventually considered as Ximhungwe lionesses, with their names being "Ravenscourt female" and "Queen". I think the fact that the Ximungwe lioness accepted Gingerella, may leave a door open for another solo female to join one day.
