Then why has no other lions entered central sabi sands? No other reason why unless they are the strongest coalition no?

RE: Nkhulu males - Mapokser - 07-01-2024

Lions enter their territory in Londolozi all the time, and a few times in MalaMala, sometimes they meet the nomads and chase them.

They have just not had a direct encounter with the other territorial coalitions which is probably up to chance and they don't meet the Kambulas probably because Kambulas avoid their core natal territory ( though it's impressive how they have not encountered Kambulas in Londolozi ).

Still if you look at the Panthera map, it is a bit surprising that they have had not a direct encounter with PCM or Gijimas so far, they walk the exact same places in the same month multiple times.

RE: Nkhulu males - adamstocks16 - 07-01-2024

Maybe part of the reason is all those three coalitions are so evenly matched and although lions aren’t mind readers they are able to make calculated judgments based on strength and confidence. If you asked me who’d come out on top in a clash between Ndhzengas and PCM’s or Gijimas I’d be hard pressed for an answer. All are closely bonded duos in their absolute prime with no health issues, the only slight weakness would potentially be Eorenji’s size but this has not been an issue for him so far. The point being although all these coalitions are outnumbered by Nkhulus and Kambulas, they might actually view them as easier opposition possibly due to the health problems of Nkhulus and lack of confidence displayed by Kambulas up to this point. That’s how it looks to me at the moment anyway, but we know how quickly things can change.

Snip Tail bullying one of his unhealthier brothers, Nkhulu #3.

edit: i rewatched the video a few times and tried to do some brief comparisons with the photo and they seem to be different situations, so maybe the photos of the scrap posted by Sabi Sabi were in fact Gijima x Nkhulu

Since their arrival in SS, I would bet a months wages that we will never see one of the Gijimas bullied in this fashion. They will be beaten one day, all lions are, but will in be in this way? I just don't see it ever happening. I am glad it was cleared up.

RE: Nkhulu males - Mapokser - 07-04-2024

Sabi Sabi certainly knew it wasn't Gijima v Nkhulu in those photos but posted it as it was.

Wish they wouldn't do that.

So I think and also I see no reason why Sabi Sabi would made up that part of their story and deliberately wrongly describe events on their photos.

I didnt mean to say nor said they made it up
I meant that the pictures in their post could be just a mere illustration to what happened.

But i agree and think the pictures are actually of Gijima x Nkhulu. Mean while the video is different situation, with Nkhulus "fighting" among themselves (more like bullying one male, but anyway).

From 7:30 on, sighting of a Nkuhlu (which one it is guys?), with supposedly a Sand River pride female, mating.

Smudge (#1).
Really great video.Guide claims all 6 brothers are seen in Kirkman's Kamp occasionally, which is really great. Just unfortunate that we barely have any footage. Hopefully andbeyond channel can share more of them and more frequently.

She says no seventh member, he could have splited or died, and of course we know that would be DeLaporte male. Its safe to say he is gone.

RE: Nkhulu males - Mapokser - 07-10-2024

These virtual safaris are great but they have very few views for some reason, unlike the ones from Tintswalo or Londolozi, a shame since it can push them to stop making these videos.

It seems all 6 Nkhulu are normally seen in KK as per the guide meaning that they are a huge threat to anyone, especially Gijimas. If they try to expand as 6, nobody can stop them.

Agreed, I hope they can get more views, they deserve it, for all their efforts. I do wonder about one thing that the guide said, where she said it isn't unheard of that a male lion died as a result of a fight with his coalition partners, over dominance. Is anyone aware of such a situation? Not saying it hasn't happened, but I have not heard of coalition partners ever killing one of their partners, dishing out a severe beating, yes, we have all seen that, but I have not heard of a male lion killing one of his partners over dominance or mating.

RE: Nkhulu males - Duco Ndona - 07-11-2024

Its always possible. They are still heavy weight champions flinging claws and teeth at each other.
Even if it is unintended. All it would take is a bad fall or a bad scar to eventually kill a lion.

Take for instance Nym. He is still sporting a nasty scar from a fight with Nhenha. A bit further in the wrong direction, and that is a lost eye.

Not to mention that when food is scarce or when there is sickness, their bonds can be really tested. Like we saw with the Tumbellas.

RE: Nkhulu males - Mapokser - 07-11-2024

@BA0701 I've never heard of it as well.

Only case scenario I can imagine is if one of them gets very unlucky and die like the Styx male did, and even then I've never heard of it happening before.
