I cant say enough about the fantastic work the PCMs are doing in protecting the West. I was an early skeptic thinking they had too large of an area to protect as a duo, but they have made it work!

I've always wondered on these drives.  Have they ever had a tourist lost?  I mean... it would be EASY for this lion to make the jump into that vehicle and have some fun, and it would happen before the guides could get a shot off or do anything about it.

Chances that lions jump into car and attack people are very, i mean very slim (doesnt mean it never happened).

Most what you will get is that lion will growl at them if they are loud or doing something of which they feel threatned or uncomfortable, especially if lion is not use to vechicles.

Although, if lion is sick or injured, chances are higher, Othawa lioness Sassy was euthanozed because she was sick/injured and showcasing agression towards vechicles/peoples.

Leopards are more dangerous in this kind od situations then lions.

RE: Plains Camp males - Duco Ndona - 02-09-2024

It does happen sometimes. Though most animals don't really have a reason to attack humans and try to avoid them. Most of them have clear well defined boundaries on where the people are allowed to go and guides respect them.
The guides are also trained to read the mood of the animal, should they come close and know how to handle such events before they become aggressive. Like by spreading silly superstitions like the ones that as long you remain seated, animals cant tell there are people in the car. So its very rare to see attacks, provided the guests dont do anything stupid.

But a quick search on youtube gives plenty of examples. Though in most cases the animals are clearly gotten to used to the presence of humans or curious subadults.

I saw a video where the lioness jumped in the car and greet tourists with her head. However, not sure how common that is.

Makhunga
What a majesty with typical Mantimahle features.

RE: Plains Camp males - Mapokser - 02-27-2024

I think Makhunga is the most impressive of the Mantimahle sons, though his dark-maned Mantimahle half-brother beats everybody mane wise.

A shame most Nkhulu seems to have health issues otherwise we'd have many more examples of impressive Mantimahle sons. If at least the snipped-tail and the smudged-nose males are fully healthy it will be interesting to see how they look once their manes are fully developed.

Matimahle should have more sons and daughters in Kruger we don't know about

RE: Plains Camp males - Ttimemarti - 02-27-2024

Probably I mean 5 males all lived up until 10 which is unheard of but then only having 3 prides I don’t think so definitely more somewhere
