@peter This male sure looks capable of hitting 250kg easily.
Given how most of the animals caught/weighed in India recently were sub-adult or sick or starving, could that be what's happening in Russia?

Could it be that the weight of wild Amur tigers is being misrecorded, as prime specimens like this are simply not beiing weighed?

Nice photograph, Lycaon. I like the markings above his eyes.

Judging weight from a photograph is all but impossible, Rishi. Most healthy adult male tigers in the Russian Far East seem big, especially in winter. What is needed, is reliable information collected by researchers. This is a problem, because it isn't easy to carry the equipment needed to wild places. In most of Sichote-Alin, hills are everywhere.

I'm preparing a few posts on the size of wild Amur tigers. Takes a lot of time.

This quote is from Mammals of the Soviet Union, Volume II, Part 2.

"Thanks to fat reserves constituting 20% of overall body weight, tigers which have eaten nothing for even five to ten days remain content."

I have no idea was that percentage concerning wintertime or summertime. Maybe someone have more information about body fat levels of Siberian tigers and how does it variate during year or does it. I would assume, that it is somewhat bigger when winter.

Tihon says video is one of the oldest tigers in the area, his teeth were very sick, due to big pain he started hunting dogs on the border with China, scientists caught him and healed his sick teeth. On the video are shown dental procedures:

Tiger Tikhon, taken from the wild at the beginning of January 2019, died on 5th of February. Recall that Tikhon was at least 13 years old.

Specialists conducted a post-mortem autopsy and found that the predator died due to rapid depletion and dehydration caused by age-related changes in the body, as well as decreased immunity after infectious diseases.

We attach one of the rare videos of Tikhon during his stay at the rehab center

Amur tigers began to massively go to the people in Primorye, appearing in settlements. Local authorities urge residents to exercise caution and abandon walks in the dark. Due to the sudden threat the children's sections are closing. (googletranslate)

Yes, unfourtunately the old tiger Tihon passed away. Also last week in Habarovski region was found the carcass of another Amur tiger by local people, according to the text under the video "there are no signs of violent death":

Nice Photos. Unfortunately I see very little genetic variation among these tigers. Almost all these tigers look very much same. Supplementing with new captive gene pool is very much needed for these tigers. Can anything be done in this regard via WildFact is very much welcome, May be petition to Russian government to introduce new gene pool may not be bad idea.
