I may need a break away soon Rule number 1 when following lions or other wild animals : dont get attached to these animals, as anything can happen to them at any time. I "learn" that after death of Big Boy Mhangeni, after that i try not to get attacht too much. Yes, its hard and sad to see Sassy this way, but its nature, "happy end" stories rearly happen here, its not a movie. Definitely my mistake to become so attached RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 10-30-2022 Its always harsh to see these stories. But we have to remember that we also have been gloating about the demise of countless Zebra, antilopes, buffelo or other prey animals. There is no happy ending or bad ending. Thats just one of humanities entitlements. An animal's demise is certain the minute he or she is born. It was only a matter of when we would see footage like that. If a cameraman happens to be there at such times. The animals know this very well. But they don't choose to dwell on that. A lession we should take to heart. But there is a silver lining to this. The demise of the Othawa pride would give other animals opportunities to survive. Western sector will be slightly safer for Cheetah and Leopards and countless other animals. The ximhungwe pride would have nothing standing in their way to claiming a proper territory. Which will be crucial with new cubs on the way. The subs are also doing relatively well and with each week they survive they gain experience. If the Ximhungwe pride can crawl back from this eerily similar fate. Then perhaps they can too. Sassy may also still come around. How many times have we seen lions on their death bed, only for them to run into a chance meal and turn around. Just like how life can turn to the worst in a instant. So can it turn for the better. The subs, havent given up hope. Sassy hasnt given up hope. She is desperate, yes, but still hasn't given up. As long they still have that, all they need is opportunities. Regardless. As a realist I am somewhat puzzled by Sassy herself. A lioness her age and size should not have issues surviving on her own. Which makes me worry about sickness. When I hear about animals losing their fear or reservedness around humans, and there is a photo of her having fluids on the muzzle. I think Rabbies. I really hope this is just some instinctual fear kicking in and its not that. RE: Othawa Pride - BorntobeWild - 10-30-2022 It is hard to not attach these beautiful creatures. After the deaths of OM and Tsalala queen, I thought I could face the "circle of life". I was wrong. Every time, Tinyo, ....two T's leopard cubs. Auntie, Juniors mum , Othwa subs....S26, Blondie,.... A lioness her age and size should not have issues surviving on her own. She was severely beaten, injured and under a lot of stress lately, she is not healthy lioness atm. As i said here before, this is all new to Sassy, she was born into territorial pride, all her life she had support of her aunts, and over night she lost it all. This is clearly different for her then to idk Tsalala princess, who was raised whole life to be solitary and nomadic lioness or Ximhungwe female who is nomad since her 2-3 years of age.. Also as far as i remember, she was never been beaten or in serious fight until now, because she was the "boss" in town, and now, first Nkuhuma and Nhenha beat her, then a week later Ximhungwe/Gingerella give here another server beating. Without support of the pride and constant food source, its hard to "heal" back from this. Her "avoiding" subs is another clue that she is not in great situation, neither mentaly nor physically.. That would be too much of coinciedence, getting sick at the same time she lost her territory and got beaten and injured multiple times. She is injured (look at her body and wounds..) and on top of that she is mentaly "lost" because of tough situation and everything what happened recently. Yes, animals can be stressed out that much to the point where they become "sick" because of it and behave "lost". My domestic cat got injured (prob hit by car), i barely found her but she was too frightened, i couldnt get to her or catch her, as she was hiding in unreachable place, it take 3-4 days until i finally managed to get her out (by food baits) and to catch her and drive to vet. She was suverely stressed and frightened. RE: Othawa Pride - BorntobeWild - 10-30-2022 (10-30-2022, 08:27 PM)Duco Ndona Wrote: Its always harsh to see these stories. She does look more like got Rabbies or TB infection. RE: Othawa Pride - BA0701 - 10-30-2022 (10-30-2022, 06:02 PM)criollo2mil Wrote: I’m at a lost for words. This is so crushing and devastating for me to see. I may need a break away soon My friend, I know how you feel, believe me, there have been many that have gotten to me, Othawa Male among so many others. I liken it to my current situation. I have an elderly dog, a large breed who has a 10-12 year life expectancy. He'll be 12 in December, and I have had him since he was a little pup, he and I bonded and became best of buds almost on day one. That has continued non-stop. Well, he now has arthritis, and just two Sundays ago he suffered a total rupture of his rear leg knee ligament for which we are awaiting a custom brace to be fabricated. Watching him struggle to get around, having to help him get up at times, has been a most difficult period for us. He's still mentally strong, often resisting our attempts to help him, but that day is drawing nearer by the day, and when it happens it will be soul crushing for me. He has never seen it, and hopefully he won't, I do my utter best to not let him see it, but it is really hard. It will take some time, but it won't stop me from eventually getting another dog, because I am not doing this for me, but for them. I mention this story, only to draw the parallel that if we were not here to learn of the incredible feats of these beautiful creatures, then who would? Their stories, victories and defeats, would remain unknown, and there would be nobody to share their tales with others. RE: Othawa Pride - Duco Ndona - 10-30-2022 It wouldnt be that much of a coincidence. As stress, malnutrition and other adverse conditions wreak havoc on the immune system. That makes the likelihood of their survival even slimmer since the younger two are just around 18 months! They'll need their mom and/or their older cousin to really take the lead in some successful hunts! This pride is on a knife's edge of survival. It's likely we should all start to mentally prepare ourselves for the fact that only Gingerella could be the sole former Othawa Pride member in the end. Let's keep our fingers crossed for those poor subs and Sassy. RE: Othawa Pride - Tr1x24 - 10-31-2022 Finally some bright news, Othawa subs looking good : RE: Othawa Pride - criollo2mil - 10-31-2022 (10-30-2022, 11:47 PM)afortich Wrote:(10-30-2022, 10:08 PM)东方琳琅STD Wrote:@criollo2mil, you're one of the greatest assets to this forum together with others.
