As we call male lions and coalitions their natal pride followed by "Boys" we also call them by the name of the pride they take over followed by "males". It is well known on the lion world to do this. So my question.... why does everyone call them PC "males"? Its clearly a wrong name to describe them. They should be called Plains Camp "Boys". Just my observation, probably not the most important thing anyone thinks of. Ill continue to calle them PC "Boys" tho. As @Rabubi said, 'males' and 'boys' are interchangeable, though it's almost always 'males'. The only coalition I'm familiar with being regularly called boys are the Birmingham Boys (BBoys), probably because it creates a nice bit of alliteration. The Kambula males sometimes get called the Kambula Boys, most likely because it's a callback to their fathers, the BBoys. Personally I hope it sticks. Males get named after the local area or the pride they become dominant of when the rangers/reserve don't know their natal pride, and therefore need some name to refer to them with. "Boys" after their natal pride is basically how it goes and when they take over a pride "males" follow their taken over pride. Its really how most of the naming works besides when they get real names. I mean how else would we be able to decipher their natal pride between the prides take over. I mean I've never seen anything written in stone but basically ask most and thats how its done. For example everybody says Ross "Males" but IMHO its totally backwards and confusing because they should be Ross Boys aka Birmingham Males as thats their natal pride. Then we look in the Mara and get Black Rock Boys, not males, why... because they were born in Black Rock pride. I mean can we get some sort of reliability with the naming of the coalitions? Fig Tree Boys. Birmingham Boys. Isaketa Boys. Sanakai Boys. Rekero Breakaway Boy. RoNgai Boys. Offbeat Boys. Maji Ya Fisi Boys. Mjejane Males (were pride males of pride). Torchwood male as he is/was the pride male of that pride. Hippo Pools males (wrong, should be boys). Shishangeni Males. If we know their natal pride then we probably should use that not to confuse as there so much conflicting info we could easily make that stick. Black Dam males is wrong, should be Boys. Is what it is tho, we'll stay confusing! Lol! "Its really how most of the naming works besides when they get real names." So you're saying that the names they get from their natal pride aren't their real names? So the 'Kambula Males/Boys' isn't their real name? "I mean how else would we be able to decipher their natal pride between the prides take over." Well, everyone else seems to be able to keep track without getting confused. And what happens when a coalition takes over more than one pride? Are you saying the Birmingham boys should have actually been called the Nkuhuma-Styx-Torchwood-Kambula-Tsalala Males? Could it be, that rangers and reserves in the Mara and South Africa have slightly different ways of naming the males/coalitions, and that's okay, and there's really no point getting so bent out of shape over something so trivial as whether a coalition is named 'Something Boys' or 'Something Males'? It seems to be working fine the way it is. I'm not the only one that describes them like this. And I'm not gonna keep going on about this. Its known, sorry you don't agree but it is known.... natal pride equals "boys" taken over pride equals "males" and people write and describe as they want. And yes these animals are called many names, unfortunately confusing.
