Hello @GuateGojira, can you make a size comparison chart for Cape buffaloes (Syncerus caffer caffer) ?

I tried finding data on body weight and sizes. This is what I found -

1. Vital statistics of 100 Cape Buffaloes collected from Crocodile Ridge, Kruger National Park

[attachment=4520]

The quality is pretty bad, but I was able to calculate an average of ~620kgs for 35 males (young adult + adult)

2. Variation and Incipient speciation in the African Buffalo

[attachment=4524]

[attachment=4521]

This gives 751kgs for 8 males from Serengeti and Kenya

3. Body size and measurement of species diversity in large grazing mammals (Boniface O. Oindo)

[attachment=4525]

[attachment=4522]

631kgs for adult males (range or number of specimen not given)

4. African Buffalo - Ecology, Evolution and Behaviour

[attachment=4526]

[attachment=4523]

753kgs for adult males (range or number of specimen not given)

If we take the mean, the average comes out to be ~690 to 700kgs for a sample of more than 43 animals
I hope this much data is enough for making a size chart

In a herd of what seemed like 200 individuals, maybe more, this female buffalo stood out from the crowd. Not only because she was one of the few to be standing and staring at us while the others lay about, but also because her horns faced downwards instead of curling up as the others do.

Such a sad ending for one lioness as a herd of over 100 buffalo gather round and take turns mauling the lioness.

On a wildlife photographic safari a few days ago here at Royal Malewane we were fortunate to again catch up with our little white Buffalo. This Cape Buffalo will hopefully stay alive long enough to become a breeding cow in her herd, in the years to come and possibly keep producing similar offspring... The absolutely beauty of nature!

I wonder if she's still alive because she didn't have those curling up horns as a weapon to protect herself from the predators.
If she's alive, surely, she has been sighted since as no-one can miss those downwards horns..
