For some reason reporter writes about Asiatic black bear, but in photos it can be seen how a sloth bear mother charges approaching tiger while having two cubs on her back all the time. Was the tiger just passing by or did he have some thoughts to have a meal is unclear, but it´s clear that this mother bear didn´t like to see a tiger so close and she showed it.

This summer photographer Aditya Singh witnessed a mother sloth bear fight off a tiger in the Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve in India. Singh caught the whole battle on camera in the following photo series. All photos by Aditya Singh

Amazingly, this bear had already fought off another tiger just minutes before. By the time this tiger came around, a small group of tourists had gathered.

The brawl lasted for about three minutes though neither the tiger nor the bear were severely injured. In the end, bear ran the tiger off.

@peter

This is the information I wanted to post in the Tiger Extinction thread.

Recent research ( 2020 ) and observations from biologists and scientists indicates that Amur tigers depress brown bear and black bear populations in Taipinggou Nature Reserve in China's Heilongjiang Province.

"The Siberian tiger is called the "King of the Jungle" and is a world-class endangered species. It was once widely distributed in the Northeast of my country. At the beginning of the 20th century, only the Xiaoxing'anling and Changbai Mountains were left in a small amount. In the scientific investigation in the 1980's, the Siberian tiger was declared extinct in the Xiaoxing'anling area. In recent years, with the continuous advancement of ecological protection and restoration work, Xiaoxing'anling has reproduced the scene of "Tiger Howling Mountain Forest."

"Taipinggou Nature Reserve in Heilongjiang Province is an area where a variety of large and medium-sized beasts, including brown bears and black bears, are concentrated in my country. In recent years, many Siberian tigers have crossed the river from Russia across the river into the Taiping Valley, making the food chain in the reserve more complicated."

"In this area where a variety of top carnivores are concentrated, with the arrival of the "king of the jungle" Siberian tiger, the original food chain of the forest area has also undergone natural succession adjustments."

"Tigers eat bears, it seems that this is only a case. However, as many Siberian tigers enter the Taipinggou and even the Xiaoxing'an Mountains area, what changes will happen to the animal community in the jungle requires further monitoring and research. What is visible to the naked eye is that the frequency of bears has indeed dropped significantly."

"After the arrival of the Siberian tiger, the number of bears has really changed a lot. Before the Siberian tiger came, the infrared camera could always detect black bears and brown bears. After the first Siberian tiger came to our reserve, after several years of monitoring, it was found that the number of brown bears and black bears was gradually decreasing."

"This may also be reflected in the fact that among the same top predators, bears still have a fear of tigers or have a certain impact on the distribution of bears."

"Liu Fang, Associate Researcher of the Chinese Academy of Forestry: It can be predicted in the future that the more tigers, the predation of black bears should increase. As far as the population of black bears is concerned, it is a regulating effect."

New video from Kabini. ©arvind.karthik7 on Insta

What happened later was after a minute the tigress surprisingly came back diverting the sloth bear and came back and rested into her private pool again, can’t express the excitement I had when the bear stood up, the jungle which was all silent came to life, the peacock calling , the bear warning off and the tigress as cool as cucumber coming back to the same place and rested in the waterhole, incredible sighting which I will cherish for the rest of my life !! Kabini never disappoints ❤️
