Unique photos from Russian Far East caught by camera trap. Gigantic male brown bear started systematically to pursue tigress with cubs and appropriate her kills basically leaving the tiger family almost starving. The male bear is obviously 3 times larger than the tigress and guess weight around 400 kg. Such a giant is unusual even for Russian Far East. Local forest workers are planning to destroy the bear in order to save the tiger cubs. On the photos the bear is caught just 30 minutes after the tigress, tracing her:

About #398: I don't want to be tactless by asking silly questions, but I am surprised to read "local forest workers are planning to destroy the big male brown bear" because he systematically steals the tigress's kills. I know the Armur tiger is an endangered specy, but this bear is only... A bear in its natural environment, a link in the food chain. Nature is cruel but this is nature... In a pinch, Russia is a very big country, the space is not lacking, they could translocate this bear in an another place in order to ensure the safety of the tigress' cubs, couldn't they ?

Could you post a copy in the tiger extinction thread? Tigers and bears in southeastern Russia have been discussed many times in that thread. In most posts, bears feature as food items. This post shows that some large male bears, as some researchers said, consistently follow tigresses with cubs and displace them from kills. As a result, the tigress has to hunt much more often. In the long run, she and her cubs face starvation.
My guess is these 'satellite bears' also follow females without cubs and immature animals at times. Judging from reports I read on the site of the Amur Tiger Programme, at least two immature tigers released after rehabilitation were followed by bears. The young female avoided them, but male tiger 'Boris' killed two immature (2-4 years old) bears near his kills.
If you post the link in the extinction thread, add a translation if possible. A summary in your own words also would be appreciated.

Behind the creation of national park "Land of the Leopard" as long as I know stay Sergey Ivanov - former Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office and one of the most powerful men in Russia.

During his early years of diplomatic career he accidently met a leopard in Eastern Africa (Kenya) and was so impressed that became a big fan of that animal. Sergey Ivanov did almost all burocratic work for the creation of that national park and was so powerful that even instructed Russian army to stop any military exercises in 30 km radius of the park in order to not worry the wild animals. Unfortunately a few years ago Sergey Ivanov lost tragicaly his son in car accident and withdrow from big politics.
Concerning Vladimir Putin himself he is more interested in tigers. Putin is no doubt a controversial figure, atleast in the West. But he has some merits for the conservation of tigers in Russia. He is the first Russian ruller who personally made 2-3 interactions with Amur tigers traveling in the their remote wild forests. Here Putin release into the wild young Amur tigers:

I don't say that Putin love tigers because he probably love only power but probably he feels sympathy and interest toward them as long as its possible to any politician. There are rumors that a decade ago he called all regional governors and people with power in Russian Far East in joined meeting. "I want from you tigers to be well protected, want their numbers increasing and I want results - said boldly the Big Bad Uncle - and hit the table with his fist. Since then the regional leaders from Russian Far East start to afraid for their positions, because any fail in protecting Amur tigers could lead to dismissal of the governors of Primorskii or Habarovski region. The number and the territory of protected arias in Ussuriland for last 17 years increased 3 fold. Of course nobody can stop completely the poaching of tigers because the Chinese black market is too big temptation for every hunter and is too close.
That fear from Putin might also have negative sides. Trying to convince the boss that number of tigers is increasing local Russian governmental institutions may artificially boost the real number of Amur tigers hiding the real numbers. So, concerning tiger numbers is better to believe to independent non-governmental organisations, over the official data. But in general situation with Amur tigers in not too bad.
This tiger sub-specie probably has the best prospects in the future because its the only one existing in the territories where the human populations is decreasing.
