RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 08-21-2023 @criollo2mil are we sure he is not mistaking these cubs for Gingerella's new cubs? I don't think the timing of mating and cubs match. So the cubs shown are gingerellas cubs? RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 08-22-2023 He is saying they are Mangheni's but it's not even 2 months since Mangheni was seen mating. Gingerella however mated way before her and was reported to have had cubs now so my guess is that he saw the Ximhungwe and thought they were Mangheni. RE: Mangheni Pride - Duco Ndona - 08-22-2023 That is assuming our timing of mating is right though. Gingerella JUST had her cubs in last ten days and has NOT left the den. Guides said they have corted off the area around her densite and keep traffic away until she comes out with them RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 08-22-2023 @Duco Ndona Unless Londolozi messed up, they reported the mating in their weekly sightings early last month. Or do you mean the time of gestation? Even then it sounds way too off. @criollo2mil Maybe the cubs belong to older Ximhungwe then. It'd even make sense for them to mistake an old female for another. RE: Mangheni Pride - Duco Ndona - 08-22-2023 That may have been mating for different purposes than producing cubs. Lions do that sometimes. So they’re not hers RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 08-22-2023 Don't get me wrong, I hope they are truly Mangheni cubs, though with so many mistakes by rangers regarding this recently ( hell, different Singita rangers and their official mouthly report mentioned 2 new cubs ) and the fact one female was seen mating just a few weeks ago, and another one early last month, it makes me skeptical. I understand and don’t blame you for being leery. Ok this is very confusing. I asked a friend of mine who had talked to the rangers before, and he told me that when the footage of the 2 suppose new cubs came to light, he asked the rangers about it on the first of August. One ranger replied the same thing they were been saying for a while: 3/3 younger Manghenis are mothers of the 9 cubs, and the elder one has 2 new cubs; The other gave a more detailed reply, saying the mother wasn't the female who was mating, but the other one, and that he believed he had seen the new cubs with their mother in the last few days ( meaning end of July ). *This image is copyright of its original author Issue is that I'm pretty sure he thinks the lioness who was mating, mentioned in the question, was the one mating in the last few days, shared in a video from Singita, while the claimed mother is the other one, but this is the one Londolozi reported to have mated early last month. Here the claimed Mangheni mother mating some 1 month and 3 weeks ago: https://blog.londolozi.com/2023/07/21/the-week-in-pictures-606/ *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author And here her sister mating on July 24th ( ranger also confirmed that he did filmed that in the mentioned day ): https://www.instagram.com/p/CvFnmq0KHe2/ *This image is copyright of its original author So I wonder what's going on, how can the mother have cubs of at least 1 month of age when she was mating less than 2 months ago? Maybe some fake mating for whatever reason? And if so, how many cubs, 2 or 3? RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 08-22-2023 I've confirmed here, these new cubs are actually just part of the 9 cubs, Ranger wasn't mentioning any new litter. So back to 9. I know the uncertainty is frustrating. Bit even today....a western sector guide "Re-confirmed" that one leder mhangheni is denning w cubs in Singita. Im going to just keep waiting until we get definitve and conclusive agreement.
