This is one of the last photos I took of the lion known as Ron of the Notch Boys coalition of the Maasai Mara in Africa. It was late February of this year and we found him and his two brothers right after sunrise with an adult hippo they had taken down that night. We were the only car at the kill site that morning as the aroma of death filled the air and thousands of flies swarmed, their sound deafening in the otherwise silent early morning.

As his brothers slept several yards away Ron, with fresh battle wounds, guarded the hippo kill. At times he would lay next to it with one paw firmly planted on its back, as if to say, "This is mine".
Every now and then a lioness in the distance would catch his eye and he'd lose a bit of guarding-focus, and slowly wander towards her away from the hippo. This is when I took this photo. He was so close to us his face filled the frame of my camera and I fell in love with that look in his eyes.

As he wandered 5 feet, 10 feet, then 15 feet the jackals and vultures would take notice. But as they'd move in closer to the kill it would break his hyper-focus on the lioness and he'd come roaring back to stake his claim, sending the scavengers away. He was a good brother that day.

The food handoff from Caesar to Notch2 was so cordial and I wish I had a video of it. ? but when a baby mama comes too close...
Nov2016, my video

Caesar looking mighty, short and sweet 10sec from last week Nov2016

I feel a Caesar day coming on :)
With his Lookout girls, the 3rd splinter group with the 3-4 females and tiny 5 cubs litter. Part 1 video NOV 2016. They also like area east of the hill.

Part2 Caesar and his Lookout girls. He looks huge behind the normal sized lioness and there is the jumbo sized female, the mama of the 5 cubs, at the back. NOV 2016.

Caesar2 ...look closely, from certain angles he has the same chunky muzzle, dark tailback mane, and Caesar's body frame but not as large yet. He had not eaten here, and yes I went to Naboisho ONLY because of this boy and my Caesar luck is always there, seeing him 3 sightings in a row. #TeamCaesar #longlivethenotchboys NOV2016

Probably Right, I just know in Tanzania they have a popular tourist attraction that is their Hot Air Balloons.
But a Drone seems more likely.
