The other old one I think might have passed unfortunately, she hasn't been seen in a while.

All 5 of the females have been accounted for.

Here is a member of the Othowa FB group that spoke w a guide.

One of the 2 old Manghenis, the one thought to have been missing, by Savannah a few days ago:

She has a huge head, she's reminding me a lot of Dreadlocks with her big head, long thin snout and eyes/stare, also similar nose:

Her eyes say makhulu but her nose says dreadlocks

RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 07-07-2023

@Ttimemarti I also can see some Makhulu in her, just like sometimes the other one reminds me of KT, perception changes depending on the photo and video, but overall she struck me as as nearly identical to Dreadlocks in the Savannah video.

Though truth be told we can never say for sure and even if a lion does resemble some specific coalition member more, it could be just because they are uncle and nephew/niece.

RE: Mangheni Pride - Cath2020 - 07-07-2023

I actually do think that DNA studies should be done on the more well-known/famous prides in the KNP area.... It would definitely answer some questions and raise a lot of interest, big time.  Some results could point to more questions on lion dynamics, such as, if, for example, only 1/2 or 3/4 of the pride's offspring were actually sired by a famous coalition, or even less, then why is that?  Which other lions/coalitions could have been in the area to 'compete' with the "overwhelming" dominant one?  It could put to rest just how dominate a certain lion/coalition actually was, based on the number of cubs they had within a pride they were over.... And could also answer questions on lone lionesses....which type(s) of lion(s) they choose to mate with more often, etc.  DNA studies could also indicate levels of inbreeding, disease.....

True but sometimes the eye test will tell us I mean look at all of the young Talamati lions they all look like darkmane even the females although he might not have sired all of them but most of them.

RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 07-22-2023

My friend talked to a guide and told me there are 2 more cubs in this pride, 11 in total now.

According to the guide, the 9 bigger cubs are from the 3 younger lionesses and recently one of the elder females was seen with 2 tiny cubs.

I can only assume the mother is the one I shared above, saying she reminds me of Dreadlocks, reason being that her sister was seen mating a few days ago so it can't be her.

It seems she might have been missing from photos and footage recently because she was indeed looking for densites.

Lionesses and cubs on a wildebeest kill.

First glimpses and confirmation of the 10th and 11th cubs of the Mhangeni Pride. Mother is 1/2 Mapogo daughters and sired by PCMs

RE: Mangheni Pride - BA0701 - 08-02-2023

So good to see. They've had such struggles since the loss of OM. Now, let us all hope that they can see these cubs through to adulthood. They are rebuilding the pride in short order, for sure.

RE: Mangheni Pride - Mapokser - 08-02-2023

@criollo2mil

Amazing stuff, I thought the other one I shared above was the mother but it turns out it's indeed Tsalala's friend who's the mother.

Her sister is mating with the PCM so hopefully even more cubs will come in the next months.

This pride had a very hard time the past few years, PCM gotta remain in power for a long time now to make sure this generation of cubs reach adulthood.

Edit: wait the footage is from june? There were talks about this lioness mating early july, if so that might mean the cubs were lost.

yeah....i think I need to apologize w a bit of egg on my face and say that it does seem this was a MIS ID from the guides. Im hearing this is possibly one og the Majingilane daughters and an old sighting.

my bad....I stand corrected. Sad

RE: Mangheni Pride - Mwk85 - 08-04-2023

Future of the pride coming to get a drink.

RE: Mangheni Pride - criollo2mil - 08-21-2023

Thanks to @lionuk for sharing these great news I woke up to this morning.  This time I’m confident it’s not mis ID :)

3 new cubs should bring total of the mini PCMs to 12.

“Cuteness overload.

The new additions to the Mhangene Pride. Cannot wait to watch these guys grow up!”
