RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - BigLion39 - 01-18-2025 2 of the remaining 3 Muskies sons! Gorgeous, impressive lions they are, firmly in control of 2 prides bordering Kenya and Tanzania. ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author ![]() *This image is copyright of its original author
RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Fenix123 - 01-19-2025 All the Enkoyonai Males returned to the Offbeat Pride territory, they were seen roaring, marking, and chasing One of the Acacia boys (Olomonyok) Credits to sikona_nick and Sophia_junior_ RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Spalea - 01-20-2025 Lorkulup hunting and bringing down a buffalo... " Male lions are considered good buffalo hunters, primarily due to their larger size and strength which allows them to take down such large prey, even though lionesses typically do most of the hunting in a pride; in situations where large animals like buffalo are present, male lions can play a crucial role in the hunt and in this case of Lorkulup, he might not even need any help. Judging by their behaviour in the video it doesn’t look like they would have killed him anyways but just wanted to mention that. Guessing they chased them off after that video ended. One of the spokespeople mentioned he was ‘proud of the rangers for saving the boy’ which to me sounds so ridiculous, it was a fair encounter, and one that shouldn’t have never been intervened in, especially by humans. Pathetic, really, the arrogance displayed, repeatedly, by rangers in the Mara. Next thing you know, they'll be taking cubs home with them, to make sure they stay safe as well. So, if I get this straight, in the Masai Mara, if you are a herder, illegally grazing your cattle, then you have free reign to kill these cats at will, but if you are another lion, literally doing what is NATURAL for them to do, we cannot permit that, and are free to interfere as much as we'd like. If you are a lion fan, the Masai Mara is the last place you should ever consider supporting, or visiting. The idiocy of people on line. I get constant threats (even asked if I was a virgin) for suggesting that humans should stay the hell out of natural events. Sure... when the Masais spear fish a few lions because they illegally put their cattle in the field. YES.. the Vets should intervene and we should helicopter assassinate these jackwagons, but when we get in the way of natural events? it drives me mad. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Fenix123 - 01-26-2025 Chongo, One of the Bila Shaka with a wound on his abdomen (kiok was also seen with some wounds on his face), everything is leading us to believe that it was a human with a machete who injured him as there is a video of possible illegal grazing in the area Credits to francis_sukuli I believe the video of the illegal grazing is this https://www.instagram.com/stories/lionsite01/3553537610062662186?igsh=YWYweWZzNHBqNGI0 Edit: now "annaveyardwildlifephotography" Said that the vets treated him and they Said It was a Buffalo o injuries him, but there still people who dont believe It RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - T_Ferguson - 01-26-2025 (01-26-2025, 08:14 AM)Fenix123 Wrote: Chongo, One of the Bila Shaka with a wound on his abdomen (kiok was also seen with some wounds on his face), everything is leading us to believe that it was a human with a machete who injured him as there is a video of possible illegal grazing in the area I saw this on X yesterday or the day before and I can see how some would say Machete, but man.. that's a brave human to get a shot in on the belly... Fast human too. I thought Buffalo from the beginning. But I'm just a moron with a keyboard so what do I know.... Chongo must have tried to suffocate the buffalo by biting its neck and the buffalo managed to strike it in the abdomen, because hitting a lion in the lower part is not an easy thing to do. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - T_Ferguson - 01-31-2025 Lorkulup and Olonkera haven't been seen in over a week now and they were last known to be near the Maja Fisi area. If they were killed by ranchers, the world needs to erupt. Anybody who visits this area as a tourist needs to re-examine themselves. This area needs to be completely boycotted from every aspect. I would skip reading the posts in this thread, if I could. The total mismanagement of that area by the people in charge, and their wanton interference with the wildlife, is pathetic on every level. I cannot speak to what has become of Lorkulup and Olonkera, regardless of their fate, everything I said stands. Masai Mara is one of the special jewels of Africa, and it has been treated as if it is a playground for prepubescent children. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - T_Ferguson - 02-01-2025 This is what has sparked the rumors. I am going to go with both of these boys are gone, and again... I am likely done with this area. This is one that might make me stop following lions all together. RE: Other male lion coalitions from Masai Mara - Mwk85 - 02-01-2025 Lorkulup is gone. I had been seeing posts in regards to this over the past couple of hours but wasn't sure if they were legitimate or not but the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has confirmed it, said to be from a hunting accident. Possibly a hunt gone bad against an Eland is what I've seen put out by others that work in the area but that may or may not be the actual case right now. |
