RE: Bear Size ~ - OrcaDaBest - 03-16-2021 Alright; here is a small collection of polar bear weights using data i've gathered over time: The Weight of the Polar bear (Ursus Maritimus) 1) Atkinson et al. (1996): Canadian Polar Bear - 473.38kg for 5 males 2) Cattet et al. (1997): Canadian Polar Bear; 426kg for 205 males; 281kg for 70 females. 3) Brear et al. (1990): Canadian Polar Bear - 407kg for 6 males 4) Polar Bear Study (?): (Unknown Location) Polar bear - 423.2kg for 1 male; 240.3kg for 2 females. 5) Polar Bear News (2010): Russian Polar Bear - 433.1kg for 16 males; 205.4kg for 9 females. 6) Dybwad (1969): (Unknown location) Polar bear - 371kg for 1 male 7) National Wildlife (1970): (Unknown location) Polar Bear - 412.7kg for 1 male 8) Atkinson et al. (1995): Canadian Polar bear - 217.2kg for 39 females 9) Kolenosky et al. (1992): Canadian Polar Bear - 489 kg for 94 males 10) Stenhouse & Nick Lunn (1985): Canadian Polar Bear - 810 kg for 1 male 11) USFWS (2009): Alaskan Polar Bear - 630.49kg for 1 male 12) Daily Mail (2008): Alaskan Polar Bear - 698.53kg for 1 male Total Average: 446.92kg for males (n=332) and 253.91kg for females (n=120). Is there any final study that can give an average for Grizzly and Kodiak Bears with their max recorded weights? This can exaggerate sizes at times so just something to keep in mind. Another interesting factor would be the age of these bears measured.
