Karen shot this photo of the Birmingham coalition in Sabi Sands in May 2016, near Nkorho Bush Lodge. Their range includes Kruger Park. We may be lucky enough to see these two Kings again on our April 2017 safari--and if you book to go with us, you might see them too!

The male in post #346 could be in some trouble. That look's like inflammation from either an infection, bone breakage, or both. Please keep us updated with how he fares. Awesome posts everyone!

The new names of the Birmingham Boys:

Birmingham Boy #1- previously called Blondie is now offically named "Nsuku" which means Gold.Nick in his right ear.Deep puncture marks on cheek

Birmingham Boy #2 has a relatively unscarred face and an equal sign across his nose. He is officially known now as "Nhenha" which means Warrior

Birmingham Boy #3 Has the somewhat split lip is now officially known as "Tinyo" which means Tooth.

Birmingham Boy #4 who has the distinct crater in his cheek is now officially known as "Mfumo" which means Authority.

Hi all I still have a hard time identifying the different males when I see them at a distance, but once up close they're quite different. I have marked the areas that stand out to me. I hope this helps. :)

Lyss Lapa has once again shared valuable information with regards to Scrapper's death. Thks!

Also referred to as the Gowrie Males on Mala Mala.
Coalition consists of:
4 Male Lions known as: 
Nsuku (Gold)
Formerly #1 or Blondie. 
Nhenha (Warrior)
Formerly #2. 
Tinyo (Tooth)
Formerly #3 or Mo.
Has a split on his left lip that shows his upper canine.
Mfumo (Authority/To Rule)
Formerly #4 or Samson. 
Has a big wound on the right side of his nose that will leave a prominant scar.
Names recieved wia WIldEarth on Oct. 16th, 2016.
There was a 5th member of the Birmingham Coalition as well. His name was Scrapper/Tokoloshe and he was thought to have been killed by a stab wound to his chest/lungs caused by the horns of a buffalo in April, 2016. 
R.I.P. Scrapper/Tokoloshe.
Coalition Arrival: They were in the area for a while before they took over, but the decisive take over date is November, 2015. 
Territory: Djuma, Buffelshoek, Torchwood, Simbambili, part of the Kruger, (?)
Prides in territory: Nkuhumas, Styx, Torrchwood Pride(?)
Coalition Origin: 
(?) - Need Confirmation/More Information.

Superficial wounds are no problem for big cats or any wild animal really. As long as no organ is damaged and blood can clott, the victim should be fine. Even infection caused death seem to be rare from what I've seen, but I've never dived too deep into it.
