RE: Jaguar Directory - Ngonya - 10-01-2023 TBT Back in 2015, Katu aka Holyfield (coalition partner of Cage aka Trapezio) with a female in the Pantanal *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author Showing his physique, unlike many other males: he looks very lean/muscular *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author *This image is copyright of its original author I believe this thread is ideal for posting old/current photos and reports of jaguars in the Pantanal, or should I use another one? RE: Jaguar Directory - Balam - 10-02-2023 (10-01-2023, 07:18 PM)Ngonya Wrote: TBT This is the correct thread! You should also look into the current males in the area. Every so often they get replaced and very physically imposing individuals show up. Here's a collage of a recent sighting of Inka, he was first seen in 2019 and has remained in the area since. I think this new generation of Jofre males has better morphological fitness than previous ones. It's a shame we'll never know their exact weight. *This image is copyright of its original author Credits: Leandro Rezende *This image is copyright of its original author Credits: Kendrick Sharp It may not seem like it but Inka is actually very tall, he just carries so much mass around his torso which hangs low on his body giving the impression of short limbs, he must be exceptional in weight. Here he is next to Ti female from last September. Ti is the littermate of Juru, born in 2015, therefore a mature female of 8 years of age. Based on the data I've gathered she would most likely be in the 75-80+ kg weight class if we are conservative, Inka looks twice as big as her: *This image is copyright of its original author Credits: Diogo Gualhardo Neves RE: Jaguar Directory - Ngonya - 10-02-2023 (10-02-2023, 01:32 AM)Balam Wrote:In the first photos he reminds me a lot of the Alexandre jaguar... The lineology of jaguars from that area is not as well recorded, Inka to me seems more heavy-set than Alexandre who was pretty lean. Inka showed up already a young adult in 2019 so we don't know who he sired him. The good news is that he has been getting busy mating with tons of females so his genes will continue to spread, very dominant male. Bororo male from the late Brothers coalition is also looking impressive, he is currently in his prime. I have so many recent photos of him saved up, I can share them with you some other time. It's a shame Xando is nowhere to be found: *This image is copyright of its original author Credits: Fred Crema RE: Jaguar Directory - Ngonya - 10-02-2023 (10-02-2023, 01:43 AM)Balam Wrote:I'm happy that at least Bororo reached his peak!(10-02-2023, 01:37 AM)Ngonya Wrote:(10-02-2023, 01:32 AM)Balam Wrote:In the first photos he reminds me a lot of the Alexandre jaguar... It's been years without even a sighting. I follow lions on wildfact and facebook and when something like this happens it can only mean two things: it could simply be wandering around and it's unlikely he'll appear, or he's already dead... *This image is copyright of its original author Today (October 8, 2023), three days later, Forastero was seen mating with Medrosa
*This image is copyright of its original author This is the only way Forastero can bring Medrosa back into estrus so he can ensure his bloodline. No matter how sad it may seem to us, this is nature, raw and brutal, the instinct of these big cats in its purest form...
RE: Jaguar Directory - Balam - 11-10-2023 @Ngonya I saw your post about Manath/Rio on Jaguarland, unfortunately, the jaguars in the photo were Ibaca female and her cub. My guess is the photographer misidentified them which happens often. Here's a recent photo of the Witoto males (Manath/Rio): *This image is copyright of its original author Manath is indeed much bigger than Rio, despite being younger. They are a good example of how much good genes matter in the morphological fitness of jaguars and other big cats. Manath and Rio's mothers are sisters, so both of them share the same maternal lineage, but their fathers are likely very different. We don't know exactly who is Rio's father (I've seen Medrosa mate with the Ousado, the smallest male in the area on multiple occasions), but Manath's is almost certainly Bernard. Bernard mated with Jaju (Manath's mother) in the correct timeline for him to be born, and they are practically identical: *This image is copyright of its original author Jen Kampmann, Mônica Cabello de Brito. Two young males of similar age and of closely related mothers, living in the same area and yet showing completely different sizes, all because of the genes provided by their fathers. This is why when the big males of a population are removed, there is a downsizing of the average size of the specimens of that population. Witoto males, Manath dwarfing despite being behind Rio: *This image is copyright of its original author Arthur Kampmann Bernard mating with Patricia, Rio and Manath's grandmother: *This image is copyright of its original author Arthur Kampmann RE: Jaguar Directory - Ngonya - 11-11-2023 (11-10-2023, 08:21 PM)Balam Wrote: I saw your post about Manath/Rio on Jaguarland, unfortunately, the jaguars in the photo were Ibaca female and her cub. I apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for the correction. Ousado was 75 kg in 2020 as a young, emaciated male. I expect him to be above 100 kg nowadays, but he's not a big male regardless. A local guide told me this about Ousado on Jaguarland: I saw him 1 months ago at Corixo Negro even though he is the smallest one he still has an athletic body shape not as fat as Bernard but strong. Here's the footage from the guide: RE: Jaguar Directory - Balam - 11-18-2023 @Ngonya take a look at my ranking of current ranking of males by size in Porto Jofre that have been in the area this year. With the current fires many may have been displaced and new ones might arrive:

Not even Jafar has been seen for days now. It's such a competitive area where males come and go. RE: Jaguar Directory - Pumaflorest - 01-02-2024 Are there coalitions of leopards?
