I would be surprised as Kambulas haven’t showed this kind of aggression towards females, yet. They were mating last week with some Imbali lionesses so it wouldn’t make much sense to kill one, assuming she was one of the mating females, but weirder things have happened.

Nharus have also been quite close to the border with them also being seen in Sabi Sands and with the Kambulas too. It wouldn’t shock me if they were the culprits.

Great to see one of Red Road's sons again (15:30 in the video above). It's been quite some time since we saw (one of) them.

The mane of the young subadult male is not so much developed yet but his frame seems quite large and filled out. Good to see him doing well. Hopefully he can make it to nomadic life when the time comes and then start his own adventure; I don't think we have seen any Red Road sons make it so far. But feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

Below we see Red Road with one of the Nharu lionesses, footage of two days ago. I think they mated as well (they edited it out, it seems):

It doesn't seem like they made it, I agree.  Maybe this one will.  That area is notorious for HWC and lions always seem to be disappearing from the Manyeleti in particular.  At first, I was hoping for some fresh blood to be added to the Nharu Pride with other coalitions coming in, but now, I am quite content that no coalition seems to want to be in charge there (in comparison to other territories).  I'd be pretty upset if a new coalition suddenly vanished just after taking over that pride or after siring a bunch of cubs.

Interersting Report posted to FB....its reportedly, Mandevu with the Young Mbiri Male son of Orpen.

if true, I now worry....Where is Ncile?

I have not seen any report of Mandevu coming back into the old territory lately let alone seemingly taking his younger sibling with him.

I can confirm its definitely Mandevu in the sighting but I cant quite be convinced its Junior The Second yet.

maybe someone here has further clarity.

quite strange... one thing is for sure, that is not Ncile? we dont get that many updates on the tinswalo boys anymore, could Ncile be with the pride? also if it is the Orpen Jr, this seems to be the best outcome for this young male, but still wheren´t the tinswalo already pride  males of Skorro pride? I wonder how the females will accept this young male all of the suden

Hope nothing happened to Ncile, it would be shame after all he went thru.

Nothing on Tintswalos for a while, so maybe they just moved into area with no roads.

As for young male, they know him from the former pride, so its not like he is some random male for them.

Maybe they again come in contact with Mbiris, or some members, and young male just followed them.

yes, it is possible hes mating or with a pride group.

That is why this is strange and maybe a sign that something has happened.   I dont see two dominant males suddenly accepting another lion even if they are related like this.   Secondly, I have a feeling that the Mongawanes may have won the Skorro Pride takeover and the Tintswalos either retreated or moved .

only speculating / brain storming.

If im not mistaken, Tintswalos where only seen mating with females, we didnt have any sighting of them hanging with new pride Skorro.

Mongawanes also showed up in that area, prob attracted by same females in estrus, few times 2 parties where seen in close proximity.

I guess we need to wait and see if Ncile shows up, but with lack of sightings in Kruger, that might take a while.

RE: Lions of Manyeleti - Mapokser - 08-22-2024

One of the Mongawanes was seen mating with a Skorro lioness recently but Tintswalos were already fully dominant over that pride.

I'm worried about Ncila, maybe the Tintawalos wouldn't attack the Orpen son if they were to meet up again, but it seems unlikely they, as fully dominant over a new territory and pride, would just accept patrolling with them a big 3,5yo subadult brother/"son" from their former territory and pride, a sub they haven't seen in a while as well, from a pride they abandoned.

Even if they were still with Mbiri pride, you'd expect them to have ousted the Orpen male by now or at least start doing that.

So if Mandevu has accepted the Orpen son it could mean that he lost Ncila and is in a vulnerable/nomadic state wanting any company he can get, so a familiar subadult was a ok opportunity.

Still, I hope Ncila is fine and they are still dominant over the Skorro pride. If for whatever mysterious reasons the Orpen son joins this coalition and is accepted by the pride, it's a great bonus, but this feels too much like a dream.
