she had been away from these youngsters for a long time and presumably was denning....now she has returned and no mention of cubs or signs of lactating so the outlook on cubs isnt the best.

Thanks. Her being seen with the subadults at times and then not with them at other times had me wondering if she was moving back and forth between them (subs) and potential cubs elsewhere.

She looked like she was pregnant in her sighting with Floppy Ear.  She was on her side, with full teats and a swollen stomach.... Unless she was just full of meat and had already given birth.  She doesn't seem to stick with the female subs, so maybe she has cubs or is about to give birth.

im not very good at these things but the majority of these look like mini Ubosos to me  :)

I would say 2 or 3 based on looks....  And Gore also mated and sired one or two possibly. All 4 of the males could be the sires for the Styx subs, plus the older Kambula cubs born up to 1/23, I'd say.  Ubuso was seen running/hunting with the pride on 8/16/22, and then steadily declined later, passing away mid Feb '23.  Gore mated even later more so with the Kambulas until he passed away late 5/23.  Gore could have sired cubs born up until spring of '23 since he only deteriorated quickly the last couple of months until he died.

The Kambula cubs born around mid June/July 2023 or later are 100% the remaining two dominant males.  So, the ones now 6-7 months or younger.  I think the majority are older than this now....but 3 more were just born and maybe one or two litters the latter half of last year.  Anybody know exactly?

Styx Pride reunited again (adult Styx lioness and Floppy Ear first two slides) Last slide is one of the Southern Pride lionesses.

I hope the adult female can find a good den and raise these cubs with the subs.

The issue is that once the Styx become territorial, there will big conflicts as there will be 3 prides in a small area under the same males.

Seems very likely, there's already been conflict twice, even one death. 13 lionesses is too many for a coalition of 2. Unless they abandon the Southern pride, which would be unfortunate.

For the males it would not matter. No matter the amount of prides in it, its still the same area to protect.
So I doubt they will abandon a pride over this.

“ Idk where to even begin with all of the animal photos…. But this early morning encounter with a pack of freaking LIONS (❗️) seems as good a place as any.

This group of ? siblings included 5 sisters and 1 brother. Brother man (back middle in photo 1 / solo in photo 4) is still pretty young, as evidenced by his neck beard mane that he’s working on growing out lol.

The feeling of seeing these incredible animals in their natural (read: WILD) habitat (having previously only ever seen them in zoos and nature documentaries) is something I will not soon forget! Can’t wait to share so many more photos ?
